And yet this team will find a way to trade him because, you know, we're the Wolves and he's not part of our "foundation".
Re: Dieng's Development
I like dieng's improvement on offense. I really hope he is allowed to continue to take those 3's come the regular season. He has hit it in the fiba leagues and pre season so far. Sad to think that on any other team he would be encouraged to shoot the 3 and stretch the d. But here, He might get bench for taking it.
I feel like Dieng and Towns can play together and we should give it a try. They can certainly co exist on offense as both are good passers and can shoot and score in a variety of ways. Dieng is probably our best rebounder at the moment and we have been out rebound badly in the pre season. Defense is the big issue for dieng as well as the rest of the team. Its an area that he was thought to excel at the league yet he has been bad at it. Whatever the case, he has been one of the bright spots along with towns and bjelica in the pre season.

You will be glad to know Sam has said Dieng has the green light to shoot open corner 3's.

I think fans everywhere where pretty much thrilled to hear that from Sam. Honestly watching this team most games it seems like guys have more of a green light to shoot the 3 than last year. Sam also has said he doesn't like when guys pass up open shots. I know Lip was annoyed with Bjelica a few times last night when he didn't fire away but guys were coming out on him and he has more to his game than just bombing 3's which he has been doing well though.
Back to Dieng. So many players we talk about one aspect of their offensive game setting up another aspect. Dieng being able to hit jumpers opens up the rest of his game and he has a wicked pump fake and it seems to have gotten even better with more range. So he is a threat to shoot or drive on the perimeter. In the post he is a threat to shot or make some sort of move. He is a pretty good passer too. He has an awkwardness to him physically and sometimes his footwork isn't perfect but the raw skills are there and he has actually had success with them it's not just totally theoretical. Offensively there is actual pretty good upside there. I'm thrilled with his growth on that end.

Im with you on dieng. Another thing I like about him is that he is 'all in' whenever he plays. No messing around, plays with intensity and hustles. His d drive me nuts at times but the guy is pretty raw. Its surprising that his offense developed faster than his defense as he was projected to be a plus defender coming into the league. He does have the willingness and length to defend. Its just that he has poor technique and habbits and strength. Hopefully he gets the proper coaching to correct those areas.

I might be in the minority here, but I don't like it when Dieng tries to drive to the basket after a pump fake. He doesn't have that great of a handle and he's not all that fast. Half-decent defenders are going to be able to poke the ball out and force a turnover when he does it. I'd rather he stop and take the jumper after a dribble or two around the defender than try to take it all the way to the basket. Maybe it's just me.

Re: Dieng's Development
Khans, I generally don't like the pump fake and drive either from Dieng, mostly because he gets called for traveling 50% of the time. That's even worse than a missed contested jumper because at least then you have a chance at the offensive rebound.
However.....He seems to have improved in keeping his pivot foot down on that move before putting the ball on the floor and if matched up against Centers, there is generally no one else that can really get in his way after he gets past his guy.
Dieng is sporting a 66 TS% in 6 pre-season games with decent volume (19 points per 36 minutes). I'm not sure he can maintain those numbers in the regular season, but there is no question he is an improved offensive player.

Re: Dieng's Development
An observation that I've had is that Dieng has looked guys off this pre-season. He's so confident in his own offensive ability that he's taking some questionable shot attempts instead of making a pass for a better shot attempt. I don't think it's at the level of "ball-hog" or "black hole" or anything like that, but to me he's doing that more frequently so far this year than any other year and I'm not sure that's what I want him doing.

Interesting take. I'm actually on the other side. I feel like Dieng has sometimes passed out of easy shots that I feel he should take. If you look at shot attempts, he's certainly not a volume guy. When you consider his efficiency numbers...he's exactly the guy I want to shoot a little more.
