Re: Best Potential Love Trades
I'm leaning more to keeping Love, seems like any of the proposed scenarios makes us slightly worse. I say go for broke this year and find out if a new coach can make this team playoff caliber. I understand it's still the West, but just like last year, only the Spurs and OKC really scare me. If we start off bad, then absolutely trade him for whatever you can, and then we move the team to Boise or Omaha.
I think this team has good players and more importantly, a few really good young players.

Interesting that some people think Parsons is "overrated and not worth a big contract" yet are on board paying Klay big money and love his "upside".....

This was exactly what I was thinking when I was reading through the comments. Thompson's the lesser player out of him and Parsons, but a package with him is acceptable? Absurd.
Also, doper, in what way is Parsons a douchebag? He's one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.

More interested in male modelling and acting than bball from what I can tell in interviews.

Is it possible that some people think Klay is better than Parsons? These are called opinions. Just because you convey your opinions as fact, doesn't make them so.

Interesting information, Doper. I hadn't heard anything about Parsons' character issues. He has really good stats, but I don't really know much about him. Could you fill me in a little more on the Dbag factor with Parsons? Thanks.

Better eFG%, higher FT rate, more versatile, and MUCH better distributor/rebounder.....these things aren't opinions, but actual facts.
Additionally, while some have been inclined to immediately dump Martin in any Love trade, a Martin/Parsons wing combination compliments one another MUCH better than a Thompson/Brewer combo.

I heard an extended interview with him recently where he was talking about his modelling and his prospects as an actor and how much he loves living in LA in the offseason and doesn't like even think about being in Huston in the offseason. This was right at the time when the Love rumors had started and I said to myself no way this kid would ever be satisfied playing for the Wolves. If we had fears about Love's secret crush on LA I would have all of those fears tripled if we traded for Parsons.
He may be a fine character in terms of community involvement, effort in practice, etc. But he struck me as a huge dbag in the interview in terms of someone who really cares about superficial things. Maybe it is just my personal disdain for model/actors, but I would avoid those types if I was building a basketball team in Minnesota.
Re: Best Potential Love Trades
Honestly, I'm not sure who is better between Klay and Parsons. I've watched Klay far more than I've watched Parsons and I've heard high praise of Klay directly from a couple NBA insiders. From what I've seen of Klay on the court, along with his stats and the analysis I've heard from the two NBA insiders I've talked to, I'd say Klay would be a really nice addition to the Wolves. Getting Klay along with Lee and Draymond Green while also getting rid of Martin's contract seems like as good a deal as any we could get for Love.
Since I don't think a deal with Houston for Parsons, Lin and Jones is likely, I think it will come down to either Golden State or Chicago unless Boston steps up with some sort of three-way that makes sense for the Wolves. I'd be happy with either the Golden State or the Chicago deal -- so long as the Chicago deal includes Mirotic and McDermott.
I started out preferring the Golden State deal, but as I reflect, I think I'm leaning more towards the Chicago deal based on the high regard I have for both McDermott and Mirotic. I'll confess, I've only seen limited highlight videos of Mirotic, but those highlights, his Euro stats and the analyses I've read lead me to believe he's an elite talent. I see McDermott becoming a very good NBA player and capable of contributing significantly right out of the gate. Taj Gibson's defense would fit well next to Pek. So as a package, I think that would be a nice deal for the Wolves. But whether we can get this sort of package probably turns on whether Melo stays in New York. If Melo stays put, I would expect the potential deal I outlined to be there for the taking.
