Excellent, he already has the long-2 figured out! He should fit perfectly in Flip's offense.
Hey Q just curious, Flip said what really turned the brass onto Towns was his workout in Santa Barbara. How do you feel about that?
It actually disturbs me that he would put that much emphasis on a workout when all evidence had already pointed to Towns being the right pick at #1. I'm just glad he had a good workout. If he had a bad day, it could have gone sideways on us.

But Flip was also quoted saying Towns moved to the top of his list during the college season. I think you guys are working to hard to find fault with Flip's evaluation skills...

Good to hear. But why did he have to work him out then? If he did great, it only reinforces their desire to pick him first. If he does poorly, then what? Does that invalidate the much larger body of evidence already accumulated? I would certainly hope not. So then why do it? I don't see any upside to it; only downside.
If he didn't work out Towns and the pick somehow didn't work out. He'd get canned on that fact alone. I see nothing wrong with working him out just to double check, no sense in not working him out. Also to see him in person deal with the success or failure of a workout. Is he hanging his head after a missed shot, is he showing intensity, a lot of subtle things to take away from a workout. plus its just more time to be around a guy to get a sense of him as a person.

I think at the very least Flip wants to work guys out to market the franchise to guys coming into the league. That's particulaly true this year with the new Mayo facilities to show off.
I think there should be a distinction made between workouts like the pro day that Teddy had and teams doing their workouts with players. Tirner did his own work with Teddy coached him up etc and wasn't phased whatsoever with Teddy's pro day he was already thinking of stuff to work with Teddy on. I think generally the smart front office people are trying to confirm what they already know about guys in these workouts and maybe see something that's a real concern (bad habits attitude etc) that you may be able to see by running a guy or a group of guys through the paces.
Let's be honest Q the issues with the workouts aren't the workouts it's the front office people themselves whether they have the right approach or not or have the acumen when evaluating talent. If you know what the hell you are doing a workout can be a good thing. If you don't you can get fooled.
In addition I stuck to the stance that Flip would pick Towns because he has been talking about 2-way players since taking over this franchise.

So the workout confirmed what they had scouted during the year, yet there is no upside to that confirmation? That's such bullshit. We get it. You absolutely hate workouts, but in this case the positive was the workout confirmed what they wanted to know about him. How is that not seen as an upside to giving him a workout?
Yeah, Q, you're gonna lose this one. And there's a lot more to a "workout" than just the physical skills. There are mental aspects as well, both on the court and in film, which Flip says they do.
Kahns is upset about Hummel's QO (which isn't even signing him!), and Q is upset about doing due diligence. Tough Sunday...
Agreed Khans, plus it allowed them to spend time with him and learn about him. Granted the spent time talking to people around him as well outside of the workouts, but it's still quite valuable to start learning about who someone is.
