See, the Wolves coulda made that deal and probably wound up worse than they were last year. It opens up holes they can't patchwork together.
The Western Conference is deadly. We're way closer to being the worst team in the west than the 8th seed. I love Towns but he can't do it alone.
Rosas in order to not look like a disaster has to ace every cheap signing he makes and bet the house that Culver at worst could be the third guy someday on a contender.
You're right, we are much closer to the bottom of the West. The mistake Rosas is making is thinking he can build this thing on the fly. The best he can do is keep us in the middle of the league given the hand he has been dealt. The problem is he hasn't figured that out yet.
Cool - I think Rosas was overly optimistic about what he could accomplish with the assets he had. He's certainly no front office genius as far as I can see. But to be fair, he inherited a tough hand from Thibodeau. To turn things around, he had to be willing to part with both Saric AND Covington. As I've said many time, he should have given up Covington to get Garland. I see Darius Garland as a budding Damian Lillard. I could be wrong. But Rosas was obviously high on him to the point where Garland was Rosas' first choice in trying to trade up. If you're really high on Garland, you don't hold back the 29-year old Covington coming off a knee problem that kept him out two months.

Even if he gives up Covington, that just opens up another giant gash this team can't fix.
What we're finding out is that nobody wants Jeff Teague, let alone Andrew Wiggins, so even if you did get Garland and he looked good, this team would be significantly worse because now you're relying on Wiggins more than ever and that just doesn't work. I just think if Rosas decides to opt for a longer rebuild, he won't last long here.

Again, you're right. He WAS dealt a terrible hand. But going so hard after Russell is the type of move a team like the Warriors should make, not the Wolves. I think he's lucky he failed.

I never thought Russell was the answer, but at the very least, if it didn't work, nobody could say the Wolves didn't try to cater to Towns. Now it just looks like they didn't come through for Towns and he and everyone else on the roster is gonna realize those positive vibes they had aren't gonna be coming back that easily.

Cool can I ask what player the wolves should go after that could down the road make us a contender. Do you think anyone on the wolves is worth keeping.
The only reason I ask is you hated the Butler deal because he was older and an injury history. Now you hate Russell and he is a 23 year old all star and KATs best friend.
We are really never going to have cap space in KAT time with with the wolves. I'm just curious what you think is the plan here or do we just start another rebuild and trade KAT

It's worth noting they basically paid 3 future first round picks and a max contract to add him since they dumped iggy. Golden state paid a high price like many thought it would take to move Wiggins. Maybe adding Russell was smart but it came with a cost.
EDIT: It's obviously time for bed...clearly it was just 1 first round pick not 3.
This move just extended their window for a few more years. Any team with steph and klay are going to be contenders. Add a dlo who can play alongside them and is only 23. You still have green and looney as bigs. They still have their draft picks for the next few years. They are a great organization that players will want to play for. Better than losing durant for nothing.

Looney is a free agent and Green is next year. Still think they complete for the title but it's not all rosey going forward
Lip, you and I remain the only guys willing to give up covington to get a better player/prospect.
I make my argument that covington was our best bet in pairing up with teague to shed the needed salary and get scoffed at.any here thinks teague has more value than he does and covington is untouchable.
I like covington But you just set out the reasons why he should not be viewed as a untouchable core piece. We dont have much positive assets and in the nba, you cant expect to dupe teams into 1 sided deals that only benefits yourself.
Seriously, how is it possible to have to give up 3 picks to get off Iggy. I mean if your GS, wouldn't you call the Knicks and say hey, will you take 1st round pick for taking Iggy into your cap, this will save you from signing Bobby Portis, and you get a 1st round pick!!! If they balk, you give them 2 picks. You're still ahead! I don't get it. Btw is Kahn back in the NBA running the Knicks!!
