I think its important to show said player that your serious about winning every year. You do that by not settling for average players, maybe being more of a player in free agency instead of doing essentially nothing to improve a 29 win team other than adding another rookie.
Being proactive now may help keep him down the road . How many average seasons can we afford to have before doubt creeps in his head like it did with KD.
I don't wanna lose Towns and wait another 10 years to be competitive like we did with KG.

I agree with this, but don't forget the flip side which is being a serious player in a foolish market potentially sabotaging future competitiveness. They were not going to contend this season, maybe next, but truly their window should be fully open the year after that, the same time the cap is expected to drop.

KAT isn't going to care how hard they tried this season or next if by the time he's truly free they're in such cap hell that there is no chance of winning.

We've been active in FA, just not successful in landing guys for a variety of reasons.

Well if you can sell that to the players every year and it keeps them happy I'll tip my cap.

The reality is this team is going to need to win some games and get a head of steam. That starts by drafting well and making some noise with the players you got. Hopefully that starts next season.

Only once in the history of this organization have they really truly stepped out and made big moves . Sam and latrell were brought in and lo n behold. Game away from the finals. Look, I get it, they cant make big splashes every year and overspend . But I'm looking to see a mindset that leads me to believe that at any time their willing to make a big move to better the team and keep current stars happy. I mean come on, we just had a thread on Cole Aldrich and how happy we are that we got him. Yeah, la di fucking da!

I will ask again who would you have added. I am not against your point but I am not sure what splash we could have made without making a mistake financially

Pau got 15 mil a year, I would've thrown him 2 year 45 mil. 16 pts 11 rebs 4 asst 2 blocks last year? Shit!

Heh, yes, we probably shouldn't be falling over ourselves too much on the Cole Aldrich move, but it's a nice value play.

As for Sam and Spree, remember that we were a playoff team with a star at his peak when they came over. We aren't quite there yet.

Gasol wasn't coming here unless we made a reckless offer. He wants to chase another ring and was willing to play for a bit of a discount at San Antonio.

I'm disappointed too, but I'm not sure if I would have done anything different than Thibs and Layden (so far).
