Fuck Wiggins. Fuck Butler. Fuck Thibs.

The only other result was going to be matching a max offer another team offered him in free agency. Congrats he's still on the team with a max deal and you save a year. That's the market value for a 23 year who plays almost every game and scores 20 a night. So the other option was to let him go for nothing with limited resources to replace him. He isn't worth that contract, but he'a worth more than nothing to a team like us that had nothing else to build around Towns. That's just the reality of the situation.

That's what I kept trying to believe, over and over and over. But I have a hard time believing there is any team out there that would even consider offering him a max contract. The only downside is Wiggins opting to accept the Qualifying Offer, thus becoming an unrestricted FA next year.

He's just the type of player teams have always taken a chance on. Position versatility. 20 PPG scorer. 23 years old. Third wheel on his current team with more to give in a bigger role. He was getting a max offer. There is no scenario in which he wasn't getting that offer from 1/30 teams.

The other option would have been to trade him instead of LaVine for Butler. Probably could have kept the pick as well.

Kahns, I don't disagree with you at all that Wig would of received a max offer from at least one team.

I just wish we had an imaginative/smart from office to see how a bad investment he is and trade him before last year. He still had the allure of being a hyped #1 pick, and like you said he was 23 yrs old with a nice PPG ave. Unfortunately his offense is arguably the worst part of his game, due to its so FUCKING inefficient!! It's so hard watching him try and dribble around someone and try and finish. Yuk.

I liked what I saw out of Wiggins in the other categories in the game last night. its being more normal for him to do those types of things. That's the type of stuff I wanted to see this season anyway. Offensively...hate away. I think he needs to start baiting guys into slapping the ball away from him and drawing fouls when he goes to the rim...and also remember how to dunk.

The only category with any sort of improvement is steals. Everything else is the same or down slightly.

Oh, and free throw percentage. That's at 80%... on a career low number of attempts... and almost 1/2 of the attempts he took his 2nd year in the league.

Of all the things from Wiggins the FT thing might be the most bizarre thing. I mean...really its weird. I get partly way but...IDK

The bright spot is that per 36 he is taking half again as many 3's as last year. Hopefully he can make them (and keep taking them) at even a 35.5% when the season ends.

I'll say this about Wiggins...He shouldn't need a coach ot get the most out of him, but....even as a flawed offensive player that he is I think another coach or maybe a different offensive player next to him COULD utilize him more effectively. I think we can all agree he is unlikely to be going anywhere this season, but next offseason is when all these games can help us decide what kind of deal we should be looking at making.

EDIT:

I should realize this is a venting thread about Wiggins. I don't want to be the ray of sunshine to bring it down or whatever. I've been a Wiggins guy to some extent and...I absolutely think he is part of why this team hasn't been as good as we have wanted it to be. Im concerned about his ultimate impact on this franchise because of his production relative to his contract. I do see him doing some of the other stuff out there and I think sometimes people aren't giving him the credit for that because he is sleepy Wiggins. HE earned that though as I said going back to last year. Wiggins deserves threads like this...for the most part. Its too bad.

I remember the wigs before thibs and Butler came along and i want him back.. Something tells me thibs is not letting him be him. I well hold off the hate until i see him play under a HC that put's his players in the best possible position to succeed.

If I were Wiggins' coach - and I'm pretty sure D'Antoni and Buldenhozer do this in Houston and Milwaukee - I'd basically tell him that if he puts the ball on the floor, he is absolutely not allowed to pull up and shoot unless he's beyond the arc. It's either shoot the 3, get all the way to the basket, or kick the ball back out. He gets 3 "strikes" per game in terms of mid-range and long 2s, but everything else needs to be 3's and at the rim. This stuff gets measured and fed back to him in graphic detail after each game.

This is what a modern day coach and his staff would do. They can't fix his motor, but they should be able to fix his shot selection.

I think a different coach could make a big difference for Wiggins. He's just not gonna move much in an iso heavy offense. Get him moving and that's when he can be efficient. Cuts to the rim. Handoffs. Flare screens. Anything other than here's the ball 26 ft from the basket now make something happen. That's not his game. If he gets the ball with a built in advantage of space I think you would see him be more aggressive getting to the hoop. Right now it's just here's the ball. Get to the rim. And that is a hard way to play basketball especially when you don't have a tight handle.

Maybe. But let's not forget that he's had 3 coaches now... and whether that's Thibs fault for the plateau or not... he's effectively the same player he was as a rookie.

One thing I did like from Flip when Wiggins was a rookie...

One game he ended it with Wiggins trying to guard Zach Randolph or somebody like that... only to have him start out the next game defending Chris Paul. He was basically saying... "you're our guy, we think you can be a lockdown defender from 1-4"...

Granted, I think Randolph hit a couple of easy shots to win the game... and Paul destroyed Wiggins to start the next game... so maybe it was fool's thinking in the end.

I'm sure somebody, or multiple people, tried something similar with Jeff Green to similar results back in the day.
