Re: Should the Wolves tank?

Aren't we already tanking? This seems like Thibs is trying to force Taylor's hand to sell the team.
Wolves fan commiserate here!

A season is by no means a failure if you don't win a championship. All the player movement has set the narrative of championship or bust. But in that scenario how do you ever build a team? GS spent quite a few years finding their identity as a core before surging forward. Patience along with good moves is part of the equation. Unfortunately we may be incapable of good moves.

It's this new age of thinking that has me appreciating the SAS, Milwaukees, Utahs, Indianas, et al...
According to some... Malone and Stockton were failures.
"BLOW IT UP!!!"
[Note: The odd thing for me is when it's fans leading this way of thinking. We're the ones paying money and spending time with the team. Isn't it in our worst interest to consistently put out an inferior product just for the hope that someday it would be great? Think of it this way... would you rather be an absentee dad who finds out that your longlost son is about to be the president of the U.S.? Or, relish in the many memorable moments you share with your offspring along the way as he ends up being an entirely decent and respectable middle management rube?]

They made the finals at least (Utah). The Wolves are not even going to make the playoffs. Is it better to be the 12th pick or 4th in that scenario?
If you even have a remote chance of winning it all, tanking doesn't make sense. For everyone else it does.
PS. Being President of the US is not something to be proud of. Not in the last couple decades at least.

Excatly. The question is more who has tanking worked for? Although San Antonio denies ever tanking they are probably the only team it really worked out well for. How long have Phoenix, Orlando, and Sacremento been bad for? We're right back into another 14 year cycle of losing if we throw in the towel now. Drafting well at whatever position you are at is the key with the draft. Not establishing a culture of losing as a gambling strategy for the once in a generation player who will leave after 6 years.
