Could Bazz get us a good 3 and D guy? Maybe its time for Bazz to go.

A good 3 & D guy is a borderline max player - think DeMarre Carroll or Harison Barnes. Bazz has some value around the league but he's not going to get us a high-quality 3 & D guy unless we uncover some diamond in the rough that hasn't really shown his value yet.

I realize that. Maybe last year he could have got us Crowder, but no way Boston would trade him now. Portis is probably a pipe dream too. But the hope is that many of the good 3 and D guys developed from late draft picks and we can find a diamond in the rough too. Consider Demarre Carroll, Jae Crowder, Trevor Ariza, Courtney Lee, Danny Green and Draymond Green were all late picks and available for cheap at one point in their career. Who might be the next diamond in rough? Looking at younger wings with above average defensive win shares and can hit the 3 might yield some candidates. These include Evan Fournier, Kent Bazemore, Aminu, Jeremy Lamb, Mirotic, Tony Snell, Avery Bradley and Will Barton.

The problem is none of those guys are getting moved in trades except maybe Mirotic if he keeps playing like crap. Everyone else is a valuable piece on a good team or in Aminu's case still an important piece just on a bad one. Most proven 3 and D guys only move when you pay them in free agency. I'd like us to throw a big offer at Harrison Barnes while the Warriors try to land Durant this summer. Barnes would be great for us as a 3/4 3&D guy. Imagine a small ball lineup of Ricky/Lavine/Wiggins/Barnes/Towns. The other guy we should go after who's been mentioned before is Batum.

I'd love to get Batum. He and Horford would be my top targets. Some other unrestricted guys I'd look at are Deng, Afflalo, Lin, Teletovic and Noah. Fournier is restricted so we probably have little chance. I've cooled on Ryan Anderson because he's a horrible defender and injury prone.
Re: Bulls make Taj and Noah available for a wing
Good teams are able to draft or find 3 and D types without giving up much to do so. We should be able to do the same thing. We want to be a good franchise you gotta find those types without giving up much to do it. No reason to trade Bazz who has been showing why he has worth the last few games.
I am a big Taj Gibson fan and have been since he was coming out of USC but I don't know how bringing him in helps the logjam of young talent much more than keeping Martin. KG and Taj would take up most of the PF minutes and I want to see young/less experienced guys play those minutes if the season is about development and it seems like that is going to be more of the direction they will take. If Noah is available I think that's all you need to know. If we were a contender or trying to be soon or had little vet leadership sure bring him in but that's not the case.
I really don't know what we can or will get for Martin but at this point a draft asset or younger player makes the most sense not older vets unless a more functional 2 way wing than Prince was available which seems unlikely. Martin isn't making a ton of money but it's enough it makes you wonder what the fit will be. Maybe a team will have a trade exception or creates one and make something work.

Why do people want to trade shabazz? He can fit in the future here. Kevin Martin doesn't fit here. At best, he's a 6 man scorer off the bench, just like Bazz, but I'd so much rather have Bazz than Martin.

Yes, I don't see how we couldn't try and throw some money at this need in the future? If Charlotte got Batum, no reason to think we can't address this in free agency. Why trade an asset now to maybe get us a few more wins this season? It would be the kind of ridiculous gm move that would continue our rep as a joke of a franchise.

Batum was traded for Henderson and Vonleh and it is one year lease as he will be UFA after this year, with all teams having ton of cap space it will be hard for Charlotte to keep him. Somebody will probably offer him some silly contract.
When it comes to Gibson and Noah both are good pieces i like Gibson more, but both are 30yo which is too much for our developing core, also contracts are short and i am not sure if they would like to stay after that.
I would rather look at guys like Markieff Morris who is 26yo on 4year 8 mil per year contract, which is good enough even for 6th-9th guy of the bench (with future cap space).
