It also appears that Thibs was not impressed with Rickys second half surge and must not have really believed that he would improve his 3 ball, as he said. Its unfortunate that Thibs seems to be a guy that forms an opinion early and wont change it. Hopefully the team can still succeed despite that.
So what is your opinion on Jeff Teague?
Ha, serious thread highjacking! Seriously though, i get why it's difficult to talk about Teague in a vacuum...he's always going to be compared to Ricky. I found the Aschburner article very interesting. I just posted an article in another thread about Teague's abiiity to fight through screens, and it may be that is the main attribute Thibs wants in a PG. His quote in the article hints at how he values it.

We like to point out Ricky's post-all star numbers. But if you look at his last month of April... The guy fell off a cliff!

I think people will be surprised that we will actually have an NBA style offense this year because our two primary ball handlers are able to penetrate the defense and score or pass out. It's gonna lead to more consistency and less atrocious 3rd and 4th quarters after adjustments are made and defenses buckle down. That's what Teague and Butler bring. After watching all these other teams for years run the league with guys who can drive and kick or score, it'll be nice to finally watch a hometown team that can do that.

Yeah, he shot terriibly those last 7 games. But the entire team looked dead tired in April (hmm...can't quite put my finger on why that may have happened :)), and Ricky still put up 14-10-5 in those 7 games with only 3 TOs...pretty good production.
I've always liked Teague, but here's why I'm not on board with the deal. We know what he is, and based on a normal NBA career trajectory, we can expect his performance to begin deteriorating by the end of his contract. Ricky, on the other hand, is just entering the sweet spot of his career, and his post All-Star game numbers hint at what he will be for the next 5 years...he was more productive than Teague in almost all areas. I'll be cheering for Teague because, like Ricky, he seems to be an easy guy to root for. And I think next to 3 potential all-stars, he will be an effective PG. But I also expect that we will be doing a lot of Utah box score lurking, and criticizing this deal as Ricky is allowed to be Ricky and even improves on his post All-Star numbers. Time will tell...

I've always thought he and Ricky were on the same level. I do like Teague and am glad he isn't making Lowry level money. Hopefully he is actually a better fit and i can see why he would be. I'm happy with Teague but will definitely miss Ricky. I'm going to try and make time to watch some Jazz (and even some Bulls).

I think you are putting far too much stock into 2 months of basketball. How many people on here pegged us as a high 40 to low 50 win team largely due to the last two months of the season prior while adding a new coach and some vets? Then you add in that it took our 3rd option in Zach getting hurt for Ricky to become that guy and I just think it's way too early to think that's who Ricky is moving forward. Ya that would suck to give him up if that's who he is, but I think that is a stretch to say with any kind of certainty considering he hasn't been that guy for his 10 year professional career.

Some one here act like this is Ricky's 3rd year in the league or something, Over the past 10 years he's had a few week's where he played like he did the month or so he did this year, And time and time again we where all like he's coming along, only to see he would fall right back into old Ricky.. Don't get me wrong i love the way he plays and well miss him,But his weaknesses where really holding the team back IMO.
