It's funny because before there was simply no room on the roster for free agent SG. Now the first guy off the bench should be a SG coming in for Wig or Butler early so that one of them can be rested and play with the 2nd unit.

I'd throw a LOT of money at JJ Redick to be our 6th man. Yeah, I know he wants to start, but he'd probably easily see 25+ MPG with us since both Butler and Wig can play the 3.

Another option would be Joe Ingles, who doesn't shoot in huge volume but is very accurate.

CJ Miles now suddenly looks a little more attractive too.

Reddick may cost too much. If he'd come here cheaply, I think he fits. However, in another thread I was able to come up with 12-14 decent perimeter shooters, most of whom are younger and will probably take less money. I think we need to cast a wide net and not necessarily get in a bidding war for a particular shooter.

An undersized shooter could work even better with Butler on the roster.

Q, with Butler providing a nice jolt of perimeter defense, what kind of effect do you think he has on the defensive unit as a whole? How much does having Wiggins as the permanent 2 help him?

Well, it's absolutely huge defensively. Not just in terms of what Butler brings to the table himself, but how we finally have a player again that embodies and can demonstrate the type of defensive mindset and toughness that Thibs is demanding. I have to believe that has an effect on the other guys, including Wiggins.

Here is what is interesting. Will Thibs ask Butler to check the opposing team's best wing and be the 3rd option on offense, being a bit more of a set-up guy and corner shooter (career 43% on the corner 3)? That's a smaller role than he's had in Chicago, but perhaps it makes him even better at it. It also allows Wiggins to do what I think he's meant to do, which is be more of an offensive/scoring force and not have to carry such a big load defensively.

They should be able to create huge mismatches for Wig now. I can't see his offensive role becoming any less significant. But obviously we now have 3 guys who averaged over 23 ppg last year. Something has to give.

And let's face it, KAT is the most gifted of the three offensively. Butler had to work his ass off over the course of 5+ NBA seasons to get to the level he's at now. And he's not ideal offensively, as he's sort of like Wiggins relying a lot on iso stuff and long 2's.

My goal would be to get Wig going really early by having him guard the less of the two opposing wings and get him 2 or 3 looks right out of the gate offensively. Sit Butler down early, then let him run the show with the second unit and that's where he can "get his". 24 PPG wil practically fall in KAT's lap, so I'm not worried about him.

Butler had his pretty good 3 point shooting season. He took the least amount of assisted 3's which is promising meaning the last couple years he is taking more of them off the dribble etc.

There is SOME 3 point shooting improvement that COULD come from the Wolves roster including the PG position of players on the roster. Rubio COULD actually hit some 3's and Tyus if he was the backup (I bet they add a vet of some kind) or when he gets on the floor is obviously a better shooter than Dunn. Adding Butler it feels like they can add some decent players that are shooters and that works better than when they had the young 3 and you kinda needed a vet that was more than just a rotation guy. Now ai feel like if you add a guy like CJ Miles and a Tolliver (mentor the Creighton kid lol) etc those guys can fill in with Butler making plays when needed. If they add a vet backup PG that's been around that will help a lot instead of Dunn being the backup there. Ok I'm warming up to this deal. Lol

True, if Rubio picks up where he left off last season (his career stretch numbers) we could have a scary starting 5. He was shooting it pretty well.
