Yeah, I lean toward bleed's take over abe's, bur perhaps I'm only looking at my own feelings about Young. I was one of his biggest detractors on the board last year...just didn't like his anemic rebounding numbers or gambling defensive style. But I also talked about his excellent character and scoring ability as much as his weaknesses. It seems to me that there has been a balanced discussion about Thad on this board.

I can't tell if you're serious or not...
I'm not singling you out, I don't remember specific posters as much as specific posts... but I find it laughable that anybody could claim that the discussions about Thad Young last season were "balanced."
In fact, it's one of the most ridiculous notions I've ever read on this forum. The venom for Thad Young is well documented... very well documented.

Just for the record, I'm totally serious. I agree that the balance of talk about Young was negative, but there were a large number of positive comments about him too. There's no denying that the guy has significant gifts and weaknesses, and deserves a balanced discussion...and I think that is what we gave him. We'll leave this as an unresolved disagreement between us.
But if you want a better example of hate, go back and review comments from two years ago about Barea. I see the tone of those as completely different from comments about Young.

We can disagree. No problem with that.
I just thought the hatred toward Young reached comical proportions last season. I noted this as it was happening...
[Note: How quickly we (I) forget... the hatred for Barea was pretty remarkable. The difference is that I'm not seeing anybody claim anything about balance after the fact.]

I'll fess up. I was VERY anti-Thad with how he played after his mother's passing. Perhaps I should have cut him some slack, but the disinterest he displayed was unprofessional and did little to help a young team in dire need of leadership.
Piss on me once, shame on you. Piss on me twice, shame on me.
That stretch of games, plus his contract and deficiencies made me thrilled we traded him. Getting KG in return was just phenomenal (although the "phenomenal" part needs to be backed up with a meaningful contribution this year by KG, which is best measured by wins).

I'm with you Abe. Prior to being able to discuss potential draft picks last season, it seemed the world revolved around the issues with Thad. People (including myself) weren't OK with paying a moderately talented Thad Young about $10-12M per season...but many fell all over themselves for the opportunity to pay a mediocre PG $14M per. I guess the rising cap didn't apply to Thad:)

Thad wasn't a good fit (which some of us called out the second we got him), he has no leadership qualities to help a young team develop and grow and the stats he did put up were empty on a bad team. At the end of the day, the pick we traded for him didn't go to Philly yet and we got KG back who has always been a leader which this young team needs. Thad was just the wrong guy at the wrong time for this team. He needs to go to a team with a DJ/Drummond type defender and rebounder next to him for his team to really have any chance at success.

You say Thad isn't a leader but he has been basically universally praised by a lot of coaches. Hollow stats on a bad team...how many times was Thad on a playoff team? You say he should go to a team with a bigtime defensive center...isn't that what we hope Towns will be? Damn we should kept Thad. You talked me into it. :)

Thad is right where he needs to be right now. It's good for him and it's good for us. I wish him the best, he is a quality human being.

Yet the Nets pushed into the playoffs after the KG/Thad trade, weird.
