Are they really having people swim in the water? I thought it was just sailors. Apparently they've cleaned the bodies out of the water, but yeah, lots of untreated sewage, including some superbacteria from hospitals. Yuck! Makes you appreciate having clean water, that's for sure.

Yeah, it makes for a bit of a shock story, but I don't believe there are any actual swimming events in outdoor bodies of water. It's rowers, sailors, etc. that could be affected. It definitely makes for great click bait.

Yes, the competition for the Silver and Bronze could actually be pretty damn interesting. France and Spain of course have nice teams, but Australia and Serbia seem pretty solid too.

Also so many 2nd tier countries (in terms of basketball) have some of their best players sitting out in Wiggins, marc gasol, Ben Simmons, Vazquez, Belly, noah. Some are due to injury but it really hurts because even the other non USA Games don't have the watchable aspect to them

Not to nit-pick, but Canada won't even be in the Olympics for b-ball because they failed to qualify (in which case, yes, Wiggins' sitting out of qualifiers had a negative impact).

I went to the USA Olympic qualifiers in Omaha a few weeks ago. It was pretty cool even though the heats I watched didn't have Phelps. I did see Ryan Lochte swim and it was a pretty fun environment

One of my favorite events in the summer Olympics is probably the diving. I just find it fascinating for some reason.

Gymnastics is my favorite in the summer games. I love the pressure of that balance beam.

That's cool monster. It's pretty impressive how these guys do it, considering I can go two laps before I have to stop and take a break.

The only thing I can do fast in the water is sink to the bottom. It happened sometime in my 20's I just didn't float anymore and...um it wasn't because of muscle. Lol

When I watched it was hard to really gauge how fast they were going. I have basically no context for swimming other than watching the Olympics for a few minutes every 4 years. In the 2nd event they had spotters walking along the swimmers I assume to make sure they were doing the stroke's correctly (first event was men's 100m freestyle) and at that point I was thinking. "Ok so these women are swimming as fast as that old guy is walking sorta fast. Ok that seems kinda impressive." I was also in the corner so they were swimming towards me so you don't have the perspective of speed as much as if you were watching them side to side. My seat was great though I don't think there was a bad seat in Century Link center to watch the event I was in the 3rd level and could see quite well. It wasn't a very exciting place though just concrete everywhere nothing really distinguishing it.

Ha, great stuff. Remember a summer or two ago where he made some ridiculous number of shots in a row from behind the backboard? How a guy has the touch and precision to make those kinds of trick shots, hit well over 80% of his free throws, but then look incredibly awkward pulling up off the dribble for an 18-footer in actual games is just baffling. But it is what it is and I love Ricky no matter what!
