To be fair, commenting about Rubio playing poorly is not necessarily disowning him.
In fact, multiple posters included disclaimers along with any criticism with Rubio.
It's ok to mention when guys play below expectations. That's not the same thing as wishing they were traded/dumped/anyplace else.
Very true. I think there are only a couple folks around these parts who truly think Rubio is an inferior basketball player. LST, for example, calling out Rubio for a poor game is legit. His first couple of games in this tournament were indeed a little shaky. LST also happens to be one of Ricky's biggest fans.
All of that being said, I'd prefer Ricky didn't even play in these competitions. It has no upside to his performance with the Wolves and a ton of downside in terms of potential for injury, distraction, and exhaustion. So far he's stayed healthy and his minutes have been pretty low.

It seems to me Ricky supporters have continued to lower/change their expectations of him over the years just so they can justify their love for the guy. Has he really truly lived up to or exceeded any of the expectations that came with him as the 5th pick ?
I'll point out that Ricky didn't score, with 3 fouls and a couple assists and someone will say "hey he didnt have any TOs and played good defense"!

Pork, he had a poor game today that's for sure...
I don't think he met some of the franchise-changing expectations that may have been put out there for him when he was first drafted, but at this point, what difference does it make? After 5 years in the league, I evaluate him for how he contributes to the team, regardless of where he was drafted. At this point, I consider him an upper half starting NBA point guard. Considering our abysmal draft track record, that's pretty damn good.
I think the other thing that makes him lovable is how he competes and plays the game. One doesn't have to be a perennial all-star to be popular with fans.

Thibs doesn't look impressed with anything that happens on the court in the Olympics. I hope he doesn't have this grumpy look during our games.

I was just going to say this.
To be fair, I think he passed a kidney stone or 3 during the game. Or at least, it looked like he did.

Thibs wishes that we was the HC so he could bark on the sidelines all game long instead of just sitting back.

I don't put any stock into any of these individual performances either. Let's go USA!

Every year we dream Ricky will be doing nothing but shooting in his offseason, instead we watched him play some of his worst ball yet. I am a Rubio supporter but you can't call this summer anything but pathetic and completely wasted. If he's improved in his time in the NBA I don't see it.
