Just an idea, and it's fully dependent on how far Love's value around the league has fallen.
MIN: PF Kevin Love
CLE: SG/SF Khris Middleton, PG Michael Carter Williams
MIL: PG Ricky Rubio, Kevin Garnett's 8.5M expiring
Edit: * Contingent upon Minnesota drafting Kris Dunn with the No. 5 pick.

So the Bucks turn down Middleton for Rubio a few months ago and now they say sure lets do it? I expect better from you Cam and I am being serious.

I know the history, but I do think trades are often times more difficult to do during the season rather than in the off-season. The value of Middleton and Rubio isn't that far off, and the Bucks could fill the hole created with Middleton gone with a FA -- something they couldn't do during the season.
Like I said, it's just an idea. Maybe it's a bad one. I do know that Jason Kidd had legitimate interest in coaching Rubio. I doubt that's gone away.

That way that column is framed puts Love in a bad light. That said, I wouldn't want Love here. Some team with the right situation could get a good deal for him this summer, but for our development and for our chemistry, it shouldn't be us.

I think Boston would be the top destination for a Love trade. They have proven pieces and a high draft pick to fill any hole created by the trade. I think Denver is another option as well as a team with a lot of veterans available.
Love for Smart, Bradley, Olynyk
Love for Faried, Chandler, Harris

If we trade for Love I think we have to keep Rubio. He and Love have proven they work well together. I would think he would cost us the 5th pick and Shabazz. I am not sure what the Cavs would want back but likely an All-Star type player. Hawks might be open to it for Milsap to kick start a rebuild.

I would think that Cleveland asks for Crowder and Bradley to begin talks with Boston. Throw a late first on top of that and it could probably get done.
Irving-Bradley-James-Crowder-Thompson upgrades their defense a lot.

No space for Love on this team. KAT will operate in the spots KL used to work here. The ball goes thru KAT period. Love needs the ball get back to his best form. Otherwise he's poor man's Ryan Anderson as seen in Cleveland. I'd rather have 31 yo Millsap on this team than Love. You know Sap can play defense. What Love can do? He needs to go to a situation similar to Wolves prior to Towns. Kevin Love train has passed people. I doubt Thibs is dying to get him here.

bleed, 'IF WE WOULD EVER DISCUSS LOVE TRADE', I think the Millsap angle is a smart place to start. That Atlanta team is stuck in purgatory. Good....but not good enough. Will be interesting the direction they choose this off-season. Also, Cleveland won't be looking for draft picks as long as LBJ is still in their employ. A guy like Millsap, one would have to believe, would be exactly the type Cleveland would be looking to add to that team.
ATL gets: #5 (MN - 2016), Shabbaz, 1st RD Pick (Cle 2018 - Top 10 protected)
Cle gets: Millsap, Korver
MN gets: Love
Seems reasonable? We would certainly need to entertain the thought of whether our defense in the future could weather K'Love's poor defense.

Interesting article that brings up a number of thoughts.
- It mentioned Wiggins' role with Cleveland being more narrow than the one he has in Minnesota. I pondered this in another thread and I really wonder if he stayed in Cleveland, would he have developed into more of a 3 & D wing instead of the versatile scorer he is today? Not that he wouldn't eventually become a better scorer, but it would be more gradual (like Kawhi or Butler). So defense, rebounding, and open 3's would be more of a strength than it is with Minny, but volume scoring less of a strength.
- Love would not want to come back to Minnesota, where he'd be competing with even more guys for shots than he did in Cleveland, except with a team that isn't ready to contend yet, although he'd obviously help make us better. My bet is that his ego won't let him do that again and he's most interested in going to a west coast team where he can be featured more (Hello Lakers!).
- I think Love gets too much blame for Cleveland's woes (although he certainly deserves some of it). Where is JR Smith? What about Irving's defense? Or how about the fact Cleveland is playing against what might be the greatest squad of all time?
- While I was a huge fan of Love the Player while he was here in Minnesota, I can certainly understand the antipathy toward Love the Person based on some of the inside info we've heard about him over the years. It's tough for me to feel too sorry for him.
