Carrying both Pek and KG for another year seems like it would be a bad idea considering how little they are able to contribute. I could handle carrying one of them. But not both.
So why not buy out Pek? The cap bump seems like an opportune time to think about it. He has by far been the biggest disappointment in the last 2 years. I thought we were going to have a consistent 15 & 10 guy with him. So sad.
My guess is that Pek and the Wolves will give it one more year and if he just can't play they will move forward with doing a buyout or him retiring or injury settlement etc. I am not holding out hope but MAYBE Arnie can work enough magic to get something out of him. He played 12 games this year. That's pretty bad.
My hope for Pek is that he can just be a 3rd center until he comes off the books. Think Ronny Turiaf's first year with the Wolves. He didn't play much. But he at least contributed something. That's all I can really hope for from Pek at this point. I certainly think it would be foolish to expect too much from him considering his chronic issues. I'm fine with a buy out (not my money). But I think that might be a little too much for Glen to pull out of his savings account.

I think you're right Carlos and it really pisses me off. The right basketball move is a buyout but frugality is going to make us pay 12 mil for a 3rd center. Horrible.

No... The right basketball move is to have Pek medically evaluated for signs of his injury never healing and see if you can get him to retire. If that's not able to be done, then he's here until his contract expires. Buying him out doesn't really do anything for you. You just guarantee dead money for the next several years with no possible out.

You are theorhetically right, but that rarely happens. I get the feeling Pek is going to keep plugging away and your scenario would never playout. In a buyout you still save money on the whole and which could be used on another player in an era of a rising cap. The cap figure is not as big of a consequence with the new bumps that are going to happen in the cap. What is annoying will be hearing how he's working his way back for the next 3 years.

The Wolves have come out pretty good on their buyouts except for Kevin Martin. There are 2 sides to a buyout and Pek would have to want to be done. It's possible Glen could actually save money not cost him some. Like I said if next year Pek goes through all this and basically can't play...I think something may work out for his basketball career to be done. My guess is that Pek wants to give it another shot and the Wolves will support him because they probably don't have any choice and he is a good dude and all that stuff. We have seen this type of thing play out on other teams with hurt guys it's never a great situation.
