Also, trading Thad for KG has always been a stupid trade. It was at the time and it still is looking back.
Cam - I agree with you on Pek. I couldn't list signing Pek as a mistake because I was limiting myself to things Flip did that I openly disagreed with at the time so I wouldn't just be judging him with hindsight.
If the options are resigning Pek to that deal or just letting him walk it's hard to rip Flip too much. I think people were surprised Flip gave him that 5 YEAR deal. If it would have been 4 years I think people would obviously be less upset about it. Where we sit now that deal doesn't really hold back the franchise that much now. That could change but at least his salary goes down not up.
My point of this thread was hindsight now looking back and considering everything that happened this summer with Flip I think ending up with KG out of that Love trade looks a little better. It's not always about getting the most assets sometimes you end up with too many. The Wolves don't have a problem of too many draft assets but I do think the trade for KG will end up with some lasting impact. Also I think Thade was a key to that KG deal. The Nets had wanted him for a long time. It was handy their salaries matched up AND the wolves were one place KG was actually willing to be traded to.
Wait. I'm still confused how the Garnett trade could be considered a good trade. Wouldn't trading Young for anything (even a 2nd rounder) have been better than getting Garnett back for 6 games?
Garnett was signing here either way this summer.
[Note: I won't agree to a trade being considered "good" because it allowed the team to tank. I'm done with that crap with this franchise.]

That trade had nothing to do with basketball and everything to do with memories and Flip's love affair with "his guy". Oh, and most importantly, ticket sales. Basketball-wise, it's an awful trade from every single angle.

I hated that trade for that reason too. [Repeat boring Abe Story]... I took my niece to one of KG's early games. She got sick from being up so high. The usher upon seeing a crying 8 year old blonde girl said "No problem, they'll take care of you and get you better seats."
Nope. It was a sellout. No other seats were available. As I was told multiple times... "this is really strange, this never happens."
I thought ok, we could watch it on tv from the arena. But where? I couldn't even find a place to watch it on tv in that out-of-date place. So we went home after being in our seats for about 90 seconds.

Sorry about that Abe I remember that story. I do think you are right that trade did feel like a sham because of all the games missed although I do think KG was probably hurt a decent chunk of those games but only 5 games was pretty lame no matter how you cut it.
You are one of a few people that think KG would have signed here basically no matter what. I respect that position but I disagree with that and the additional issue with Flip's health may have clouded the possibility. I'm operating under the premise that trading for KG made it much more likely that he came back this year. You don't think it would have mattered and with that premise yeah it was a bad trade no argument here.
Anyway like I said in the title it's an odd look back.
