Come on now, I understand if u wanna say Ricky might have more upside.(even if I disagree) But to say Rondo doesnt score anymore than Rubio is bogus. Rondo has shown his metal in playoff games too. He's a better scorer, rebounder and I still believe overall passer. He's a threat for triple dubs every nite.
Rondo at Rickys age was still better. Look at his playoff numbers.

Rondo is a career 24% three-point shooter and 62% free throw shooter, averaging 11 points per game. Oh, and his surgically-repaired knee hasn't been tested in even one game. And we haven't even gotten to Rondo's attitude issues. Yes, Ricky needs to substantially improve his field goal shooting. But the idea of dealing him for Rondo falls into the "grass isn't always greener" category. I wouldn't go there. Rondo brings a lot of brown patches amidst the green.

All I know is Rondo has shown up in big games, and has shown the ability to score in a variety of ways. Im still waiting for Rubio to score 4th quarter baskets in meaningful regular season games.
Lip, your not really gonna use shooting percentages in an argument for Rubio are u?

I sure would love to have Rondo's 48% career shooting mark from the field while keeping practically everything else about Rubio... It's night and day those two players in terms of finishing around the rim.

Agree Lip. Trading for Rubio for Rondo would not be a wise move. In fact, in addition to the concerns you cite, Rondo may actually be the one guy who is a worse fit in the corner offense than Rubio!

Rubio has demonstrated that he can knock down wide open 3-pointers semi-consistently and free throws. Both of those skills can come in handy in tight, half-court games. It will be interesting to see if Rubio actually stays in the States most of this summer to get serious about fixing his other issues (pull-up jumpers and finishing). I don't think he will ever be really good in these areas, but it's hard to believe that he can't get at least somewhat better with the right amount of focus and coaching.

I'll take Rondo and a new coach that allows him to operate. You guys can have Rubio and Adelman. Lol

If Rubio were taking more than 1.5 threes a game I might buy into him being an adequate 3 pt shooter.
I mean on average hes making 1 three every two games.

Or you could have Rubio and a new coach that allows him to operate, which may very well happen this offseason! I like Rondo - he's actually one of my favorite PGs because of how damn crafty he is in the paint.

I think we tend to fixate on the weaknesses of our key players, then overvalue another player that has that attribute as a strength. That's how Asik suddenly becomes better than Pek to some fans.

Rondo can finish at the rim a lot better than Rubio, no doubt about it. But at 27 coming off injury and with absolutely no hope of an improved outside shot (I think it's been pretty established that he will never be a good outside shooter or FT shooter), I'm just not sure how much of a bump we'd get from him.

I understand that coaching isnt allowing him to do what hes best at. But that comes twofold . Adelmans best scorers arent equipped to play Rubios game. So what does Rick do?

Well, it's a start. I think players can improve their 3-point shot over time. The fact is, Rubio is better than Rondo at 3's and Free's, two of the more efficient ways of scoring in basketball. The question we have to ask ourselves is whether we think there is any hope of him improving inside the arc. I think he can, although a lot will depend on whether he finally grasps the magnitude of the problem and really does something about it this summer.
