You are gonna have to give up something of value to get him I get that. I just don't know how mich I want to give up for a catcher that is a few months from turning 30.
Also can people get over the fact that money is NOT a significant issue for the Twins anymore like it was in the past? No they are not gonna spent 200 million or something but this team isn't run on a shoestring budget anymore. They have plenty of money to spend.
I don't think money is much of problem anymore monster but 10 million is still 10 million to spend on someone else no matter what team it's. This is no different than what will happen 2-3 years from now when Mauer 23 million & Nolasco 12 million is up all that money is going into signing the young guys long term.
Obviously bleed you never looked up Kurts statistics throwing out base runners and framing pitches. Kurt has cost us about 46 more runs than the next average starting catcher in baseball. Anything is an upgrade over him defensively.
I'm gonna take the guy that has .30 points higher carrer average and hits 10-18 bombs every year. Who also throws out 13% of base runners and I don't this but I would assume frames pitches better and calls just as good of a game.
Do I want to give up Plouffe and May no, but like I said at the trade deadline you got to give up something to get something. May has been very vocal that he doesn't want to be a bullpen guy. Sorry but May is a good bullpen arm, but is an 4A starting pitcher just like Perkins was. This would allow Sano to play Third everyday . Have Mauer go to DH or 1b and have Kepler up with the team next year getting ABs.
Alright we are on the same page with the money thing then.
If May really has no interest in the Pen that is a problem. I hadn't followed that too closely. The couple articles I read just now sounds like that's his preference and TR preference too. Not many organizations or players set out to go the Pen route so...if that's where it's going after this coming year and he doesn't seem to be a starter...and he isn't happy I would be more worried. Let's see how it plays out.
Catcher is a big problem for the team with nothing waiting in the wins and the backup defensive catchers haven't been able to hit at all. It would be good beyond just sentiment to get AJ but it will come down to what other options he has. It sounds like the Twins are plenty interested.
Good article on it, it's not like May is holding a gun to there head but these were the same type of comments Perkins made before he was sent down.
Also article mentions that we have 22.55 mil in payroll we didn't use last year so say we have between 20-30 million. You guys play him and spend it. My vote is Chris Davis, trade May and something maybe Polanco or Arcia and get lucroy and lets make a run at this damn thing. Or maybe we get in the greinke sweepstakes
Let's be honest this won't happen but a man can dream lol
I don't see paying big money for any position other than catcher. It's already hard enough to find places to play all the young guys. Unless they unload Nolosco I doubt they go in on another big money starter either. The team could use some more established talent but there is young talent that is closer. Probably the guy I would be the most open to dealing is Pinto because he seems very unlikely to catch and he has shown ability to hit I like his upside less because it seems he has no position. Some other team might think they can get him to catch or something. The concussions are another worry too.
I am open to the idea of moving Plouffe but it better be for something worthwhile and I don't even know what that would be other than catching. He is a very solid player now and it seems like he has a leadership role too. It would be good to see Sano continue to show he is the real deal and also maybe show more at 3rd before moving Plouffe.

If we're spending 20-30 million it should be on an ace. I'm talking David Price level ace (I wanted Hammels, but Texas got that gold mine). A full year of Sano and the continued development of our other young hitters should provide a bump in the offense. Our pitching staff just doesn't have enough high end talent right now to make serious noise. We have a bunch of middle of the rotation guys (some have a lot of promise) and we need a guy we can ride for 15+ wins a year. That way we get our ace and if any of the prospects become really good that's icing on the cake that makes us that much better. We have so many talented position players working their way to the top that I think the bats will be fine in the next few years. I don't think we can afford to pay 2 first basemen 25 million dollars a piece. If we go for an everyday guy it should probably be for a guy like Cespedes who brings some defensive talent with his bat. If we don't land an ace, a lot of it should be dumped into the bullpen to cover for our starting pitchers. Bats and bullpen or high end starters. I'd be happy with Heyward or Cespedes if we spend big money on an every day player. We'd have a crazy defensive outfield and add a little pop to the lineup. The range of a Hicks/Buxton/Heyward outfield would be insane.
Edit: I completely forgot about Rosario also. Rosario/Buxton or Hicks/Heyward would be great as well.
Just to add a note. Cespedes won a gold glove in the AL this year where he didn't even play almost half the year. He's not the best power bat free agent, but the dude is a legit outfielder defensively to go with a pretty good bat.
