OMG my tunnel visssion just saw brewer make one hell of a play to end the half..... FACT

It doesn't seem that he gets a fair shake from the "we hate Flip so much that we can't even take facts into consideration" bandwagon.

The guy has missed 1 game this year (when his son was born), consistently guards some of the opposing teams' best players, has greatly improved his shot selection over the course of the year (so much so that he is now one of the more efficient scoring SFs in the league), is 3rd on the team in minutes played (about 15 minutes behind Ricky), and I am not aware of any locker room problems that he causes.

Those efficient 11.6 PPG that he puts up nightly basis really help this team. Considering the other starters on the team, it is nice that he doesn't need to dominate the ball to put up points.

And he is passionate about the game and doesn't draw attention to himself. It is very easy to over look that he has one of the best steals to turnover ratios in the league.

It would be great if he hit 3s better.........that said, it seems like he is well worth the 4.5 million that we are giving him this year.

Defensively he hasn't been as good as you think. His idea of defense is to run around like a chicken with his head cut off and hope the ball finds him. Then he leaks out on offense (so if the other team grabs an offensive board, you're playing 4 on 5). If he cheats to help a defender, all the rotations leave a man WIDE open for a 3.

The reality is that he plays way too much. At 25-27 mpg off the bench, he would help our sluggish 2nd unit. He's not as useful as a starter playing 31+ mpg. And I can't recall a good defender getting J'd on more than Brewer has this year. Moving forward, he can't be our starter. I think he gets more of a break because he plays hard, grins a lot, and wanted to come back here, so he's easy to root for, but it is what it is. Better teams used him as a spark plug, meanwhile he pay him and play him as if he's a shutdown defender, which he is not.

I love Corey, but I think you described him perfectly, WW.

Right, this isn't a persecution of Corey. I think nearly everyone here loves the guy. But he's not the ideal fit playing next to another skinny, defensively limited wing in Martin and another non-shooter in Rubio. Brewer is neither a great defender or shooter.

It's not Corey's fault he's been forced into a starters role. In my opinion he would be better coming off the bench but what are you going to do? All in all I think he's brought a nice return on the investment.

I'll give you the health issue. Improving shot selection means not taking as many outside shots (although there he was last night jacking a three from up top rather than hitting Bud in the corner for the better look). His efficiency is a mirage because he is the relegated fast break guy on the team. That's like giving props to the guy that lays the ball in on a 3-0 break. Best steals/TO is a result of gambling on defense while not handling the ball on offense.

He has certainly earned more of his paycheck than Bud, but he is still overpaid. I think Cool pointed out that he is playing too many minutes, and I think that may have a lot to do with the low effort getting back defensively. A guy that plays at his pace, can't maintain that for over 30 minutes a night.

His efficiency is not a mirage he earns every bucket. If "hustle buckets" are so simple then more guys should do it. When somebody consistently outworks everybody I think you can put it in the skill category.

I like Corey leaking out, but he is only allowed to do it because Pek, Love and Rubio are so strong on the defensive boards. And it does inflate his offensive efficiency.

Well, that and because Corey's always been better at it than the people guarding him. That goes back to his Florida days, actually. Leaking out or "cherry-picking" is one of Corey's skills. I don't see why it has to have a negative brought along with it.

If Corey stays back to rebound, we don't get those easy transition buckets. Period. If Corey leaks and we don't get the rebound, was it Corey's man who got the board? And if it wasn't Corey's man, I do realize the situation it puts us in, but offensive boards usually lead to points anyways because your team is out of position to start with. Only difference is Corey's over halfcourt. Here's another thing: how many times have we seen the opposition get an offensive rebound and make a bucket, only to then be followed up by a Love outlet pass to Brewer while inbounding the ball? I think Corey leaking out the way he does has far more positives than it does negatives.
