They do have a lot of draft picks yet to make and will have cap space going forward so there is the potential for improvement. That said their roster right now is pathetic, and losing is a habit you don't want to establish. Even the current wolves squad compares favorably to the future 76ers imo.
The problem with tanking is that you want to be actively building toward something rather than waiting for future success. Even if Saric does come over eventually and Embiid ends up healthy next year, they're still waiting several more years for rookies that might not pan out while ingraining losing habits into their existing young players. Their current roster without Young may very well have no players above the league average at their positions and is bereft of veteran players to mentor all the young guys.
Contrast that to the wolves current approach which is to buoy their young high-upside picks with talented young veterans at other positions along with competition at their own positions. I think this will aid in the kids' development. Plus the veterans are going be valuable trade pieces down the road if the young guys pan out or insurance in case they don't. The 76ers method is much much riskier and there's not a dramatically higher ceiling. I think there's a reason teams have not taken tat approach in the past.
The difference is what vets were the Sixer going to keep around? Thad was it and they weren't going to work to make sure he stayed. Once that Bynum deal blew up in their faces and no other young players really stepped up like Hawes and Turner they weren't left with much.
The Wolves have a somewhat unique situation to rebuild quickly with a lot of young talent combined with good NBA vets like Pek now Young and Rubio (even at his age) plus a player like Martin who will put up 20ppg this year and other useful guys like Brewer, Williams Turiaf and Bud if healthy. Some of these players could be gone in a year but the bottom line is the Wolves have some good players to build around and a #1 overall pick in a good draft. There is a lot of reason for optimism no doubt. Yeah they don't have cap space but that's fine right now they don't need to sign anyone because we have potential players for every position. Those guys may not work out but I don't know who you are going to add for at least a year.
Who gives a crap what the 76ers are thinking.. This is great for twolves. Luc and shved for young lol,Come on MAN..Congrats flip on your awesome deal i love it...

As for what they intend to do with all this cap space down the road, it's a bit of a mystery. I suspect they are trying to set themselves up to sign a package of top free agents a la the Heat signing LeBron and Bosh. Who might they have in mind? Here are some possibilities:
1. LaMarcus Aldridge
2. Paul Millsap
3. Eric Bledsoe
4. Rajon Rondo
Why would any of those guys sign with the 76ers when they could get similar deals from other teams who are in much better spots?
Great question, Alex! The answer must be somewhere in Hinke's head. :)
When does Durant become a FA?After next year maybe? Could the Sixers be waiting in the weeds to make a play for him? Phillys a stones throw away from his hometown.
MCW, Durant ,Noel and Embiid is an interesting lineup to think about.

Interesting take, pork. Add Saric, Elfrid Payton and another top three pick to that core , and you have a team that could do some damage in the East. I could see Durant coming home for that.
LA needs to join the Wolves. Ricky/Lavine/Wiggins/LA/Dieng. I know there's no guarantee Lavine/Wiggins/Dieng hit their potential, but if they do that is a legit title contender.

If he wants to go home, and join the East, why wouldn't he just go to Washington? Better, much more proven core with Wall, Gortat and Beal. Can't see Durant even thinking about Philly, honestly.

I wasnt looking at it from Durants perspective. I was trying to reason from Phillys perspective ( see topic of the thread). Plus im going to assume that Philly will have more money to throw his way since guys will still be on their rookie contracts. Where as Wall and Gortat just signed healthy extensions leaving less money for a marque player.

Oh, okay. That makes more sense then. Selling Durant on the idea of potential would be tough that's why I was questioning you.
