If that isn't a racist statement, I don't know what is. One, it makes no damn sense, I have no idea what he's trying to say. Two, what does it have anything to do with basketball? Who cares if Deng was two faced? I would sign him in a heartbeat

I see nothing racist in the statement whatsoever. Africa is a continent, and has many different races that represent the population. The storefront comment is about being "two-faced". Basically the store owner is selling high priced merchandise to the elite clientele while selling the knockoffs in the back of the store. Ferry gave another example saying Deng would be a source for a story, and then two days later deny it being him.

I don't think this has anything to do with the color of Deng's skin, and everything to do with his character. I think the whole issue was raised because Gearon has an axe to grind.

The recently realized audio pretty much bunks this opinion

No it doesn't at all, and likely reinforces it due to Ferry going even further in regard to Deng being two-faced.

So why wouldn't he just say he's two-faced? Why throw in the African comment?

Why do they throw in the Euro when saying the guy is soft. I would imagine it is a common held belief or stereotype. I am not excusing the comment, but I don't believe there is enough to call it racist.

My bigger problem is with how this whole racism thing is handled. It only seems to apply in black situations. In this case, who was hurt by the comments. Deng got a nice offer, which was about the same as what Miami gave him. Ferry was in favor of signing him. This was simply a discussion of his character, and to take it any further, you would have to know the author of the report, and what his disposition is on the matter. It could be racist, cultural, regional, etc. We just don't know one way or the other.
