I’ll add that we shouldn’t lose track of Spagnolo — he was kind of a dud in summer league, but it seems he’s had a pretty good season playing for Trento in the Italian Serie A league, He was named the “best player under 22” in that league.

I’d love to believe Spagnolo could emerge as a quality player for us. But you and I were both in Vegas last summer and saw first hand how bad he was even against Summer League competition. The game seemed too fast for him and his shot was terrible. But that was a small sample and he’s still young.

We should be looking at not just players from this draft class but elsewhere too. Gabe Vincent wasn’t even a starter his first year in the G-league. McLaughlin might be just a depth guy but still finding a guy like that who is cheap on a 2-way deal who didn’t play on an NBA team his first year out of college can be a win. Garza might be a guy that helps the Wolves and they didn’t get him the year he was draft eligible. Beverly, and PJ Tucker are guys that took various routes to get to the league. Georges Niang was a 2nd round pick #50 and was let go a couple times and is a worthwhile depth guy. Joe Harris, Spencer Dinwiddie the list goes on.

It’s far from certain you are adding the right guy/s but there are plenty of examples of finding talent without money to spend in FA or using draft picks. I think the talent level and avenues to do so are stronger than they have ever been. The Wolves need to keep looking for that talent and it doesn’t always have to be guys with high ceilings.

The Wolves should target this guy in the second round even if they have to move up to get him: Brandin Podziemski.
