On Twitter Dane Moore was playing around with who the Wolves could let go of to get as much cap space as they could. I’ll ask a more simple question. Who would you realistically feel we could sign for Prince money or a little more that would be better or a better fit than Prince? Keep in mind imo the Wolves don’t really have a natural SF to back up McDaniels if Prince is gone. Assuming NAW is also brought back a guard that can play both guard spots would mean they could play NAW at SF more but idk if I feel good about him as a SF on a regular basis or if McDaniels was out for extended time.
Someone on twitter (fan) suggested the Wolves could just go ahead and use some of the mid-level and go over the tax and find a way to get under later. Maybe for the right player… Gonna be interesting to see what the Wolves do. It’s possible they could pick up a pretty good player for the vet min.
What’s TC’s Plan for 2023-2?
Re: What’s TC’s Plan for 2023-2?
Good question, Monster. I honestly can’t think of a better fit for the Wolves than Prince for next season. Prince provides the things the Wolves need most for next season: (1) a reliable backup SF for Jaden; (2) a good 3-point shooter; and (3) the key characteristics TC said he was looking for in players (maturity, high IQ and competitiveness/mental toughness). As you noted, Prince is the only natural SF we have backing up Jaden on the roster. TC said he thinks we have enough 3-point shooting in our starting lineup but not on our bench. Prince is probably our best and only reliable 3-point shooter off the bench. TC said he’s not looking at positional need but rather for certain player characteristics, which he identified as maturity, high IQ and competitiveness. Prince has those qualities in spades.Monster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 9:50 am On Twitter Dane Moore was playing around with who the Wolves could let go of to get as much cap space as they could. If not for his injury propensity, I wouldn’t even think of trading Prince. But I still don’t see a better short-term fit than Prince for this team next season. The only reason I would consider trading Prince this summer would be to acquire a young talented PG who could potential succeed Conley. I’m not sure who that would be - maybe Tyus Jones or Monte Morris. They’re both 27 years old, which means they could be viewed as successors to Conley and that bring the added bonus of being starter ready right now as insurance against Conley being out for an extended period with an injury.

Monte Morris turned 28 today!
Good breakdown on Prince’s value and based on what Connelly has said.
I think my other question is which is more likely finding a worthwhile SF as a vet min guy or a guy that helps at guard? Of course that’s hard to say because knowing who would is an upgrade from say an Austin Rivers for the vet min is unpredictable. I feel confident there will be guys available that could easily outperform that contract but will they be the right fit for this roster? It’s not the young guy a lot of us want but if the Wolves could bring back Beverly for cheap that would be a pretty good move. I don’t think that’s the way the Wolves are looking at but honestly even resigning Rivers as the worst case scenario wouldn’t be the worst outcome especially if he was on another non guaranteed deal.
The guy I like at SF for the vet min if the Wolves ended up needing one is Troy Brown Jr. Turns 24 in a few weeks isn’t amazing but doesn’t suck. Probably won’t get better but maybe he does and becomes more valuable. I’m certainly not saying trade Prince because we MIGHT be able to get Troy Brown Jr I’m just saying he is a guy that for that price might be a solid signing.

Troy Brown wouldn’t be a bad addition on a vet minimum to fill our 15th roster spot. Honestly, I’d rather see the Wolves sign someone like Mac McClung or Sharife Cooper to a minimum deal or two-way contract.Monster wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 10:37 am Monte Morris turned 28 today!

At age 28, Monte Morris is now too old.

In addition to Troy Brown, Prince replacements at small forward who might be available more cheaply could include Josh Richardson, Torrey Craig, Javonte Brown, Jalen McDaniels, Keita Bate-Diop, Lonnie Walker and Will Barton.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 11:16 amTroy Brown wouldn’t be a bad addition on a vet minimum to fill our 15th roster spot. Would love to bring in Jalen too, I thought the Wolves should have made a play for him at the deadline.
Re: What’s TC’s Plan for 2023-2?
Well, I liked TP but I predicted he’d be the odd man out. Since it’s not clear yet what Connelly is going to do with the roster and salary opportunities, I think Lip’s caution to brace ourselves is a good one. Other players we like may be on the move.
