He played 57 minutes across 9 playoff games, so basically lots of short stints.

Per 36 Numbers - 25.9 Pts/6.3 Rebs/1.9 Assts/2.5 Stls/1.9 TOs

FG%/3Pt%/FT%/TS% - 48.1%/37.5%/100%/63.5%

He definitely has the makings of a NAW-like energy boost off the bench with a ton more scoring potential.
I was a bit surprised we did not see Clark at all against OKC. He seemed to have some success against Shai in the regular season. But if Finch was looking for more of an offensive spark, then that would be Shannon.

And yeah, I am looking forward to bigger and more consistent roles next season for both Clark and Shannon. Hopefully, a good offseason from Dilly will have him in the mix, too.

Ok, I guess I wasn't done with this thread yet, but these post-mortems where I look deeper into the stats can be very telling.

Here is my latest revelation: Whatever big or somewhat big splash trade we make this offseason, Connelly needs to include Donte DiVincenzo. I chalked up these last playoffs as a bit of a one-off for him since all I looked at previously was his hot shooting with the Knicks, but it turns this is his third straight playoffs where his team both loses the minutes he's on the floor and wins when he's off the floor. And it's not even close!

2024-25 Playoffs (15 games played)
On Court Net Rating: - 7.9
Off Court Net Rating: +15.2

2023-24 Playoffs (13 games played)
On Court Net Rating: -6.8
Off Court Net Rating: +12.9

2022-23 Playoffs (13 games played)
On Court Net Rating: -7.2
Off Court Net Rating: +4.0

The question might be, "Well what about Naz and NAW - aren't they the same and may be they dragged Donte down?" Nope! They aren't great, but there is a big difference.

Naz Reid:
2024-25 Playoffs (15 games played)
On Court Net Rating: - .4
Off Court Net Rating: +6.2

NAW:
2024-25 Playoffs (15 games played)
On Court Net Rating: - 1.4
Off Court Net Rating: +6.0

I really liked the DDV acquisition and he is seemingly a very valuable regular season bench piece. But I can't ignore three straight post-seasons totaling 41 games of data across three different teams! He's a liability in the playoffs. Period. Gotta move on from him.

Dang! That’s pretty damning evidence!

Indeed it is Tim. I never really looked at guys from a regular season vs. playoffs perspective because for most of the Wolves' history, there is either zero sample size or it's one freakin' series. But now that we are a winning franchise that goes out and gets good players, it's something we all need to start paying more attention to.

Simply put, DDV is a losing player in the playoffs and it's no longer acceptable to have guys like that on the team if our goal is to make the Finals. I hate to say it because on paper I love his fit and his contract. But the data speaks for itself and it isn't just one or two series in a specific context. It spans multiple series and teams! He needs to be shipped out.

Q - Fascinating and telling stats. Thanks for posting.

Have you looked at the 2023-24 playoff stats for Naz and NAW? I haven’t looked and I’m not sure where to look. I’m hoping you’ll do the work and post them. :).

Here you go Lip!

NAW 2024 Playoffs
On Court Net Rating: +2.8
Off Court Net Rating: +6.3

Naz 2024 Playoffs
On Court Net Rating: -2.3
Off Court Net Rating: +10.7

In both cases the Wolves performed better with these guys off the court, but the team was at least a net positive when NAW was in the game and they were a slight negative when Naz was in the game.

I have been disappointed with our bench in both our Western Conference Finals runs despite being considered a strength in the regular season.

This certainly opens the door to moving DDV and retaining NAW, doesn't it? That's something that had not entered my thought process before.

Of course, it opens the question as to who will be our starting PG next season? Mike seems past his prime. Dilly seems not ready for the part. You have cast doubts on DDV. Could NAW return as a starting PG?!?

Lip commented that he is "looking forward to Tim surprising us." It brought a vision of Anton Ego saying "surprise me" -- referring to Remi the rat who would pull Linquini's hair to create great recipes. Does Connelly wear a hat?!?

Ha, I'm not ruling anything out at this point! For all that was given up to go get Rudy a couple years ago, Connelly has a LOT of spices on the spice rack he can use this offseason, to stick with the theme here!

And for what it's worth, here is Shannon's Net Rating info over his 57 minutes in the playoffs:

On Court Net Rating: +4.1
Off Court Net Rating: +2.6

So the team played better when TJ was on versus off! Of course he had the benefit of brief spurts of action where he could go 110%, but still....
