Maybe a discussion about the relative merits of Minnesota should be diverted to the General Discussion section. I'll just say that I am fiercely supportive of my state. A very successful executive search person told me recently that the only thing more difficult than getting someone to move here (we'll always be considered flyover country) is getting someone to move away once they've had a taste! I've lived in several different states (AZ, CA, FL, Mass, CT), and I can tell you that there is no comparison between the quality of life in those states and what we have here. That's why I'm back again. I'll always be grateful to have roots in the best state in the country.rapsuperstar31 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 9:52 amUniversal health care, yes please.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 9:05 amI share your wish for absorption by Canada.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 12:37 am Terrible sports teams, worse politics, and a disgusting climate. Agreed about moving this discussion to the General Board... if it continues.FNG wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 10:12 amMaybe a discussion about the relative merits of Minnesota should be diverted to the General Discussion section. Can we at least celebrate some good news about the Twins, now that they have hired an experienced manager who has led his teams to 306 wins?
The fact that he also has 440 losses tells me he will fit in here very nicely.

That's a 41% winning percentage. Even Billy Gardner won more often than that (43%).
To be fair though... that would be just behind Kevin McHale, for 7th best Timberwolves coach!

My last comment by me on the matter just so it doesn't get moved. 100% agree, was more kidding about the health care.FNG wrote: ↑Thu Oct 30, 2025 10:12 amMaybe a discussion about the relative merits of Minnesota should be diverted to the General Discussion section. Back on topic, we faced some bad moments last season and had a lot of us frustrated by our play. Still plenty of time for the Wolves to right the ship Worse case scenario Finch gets fired at some point like Denver fired their coach last year and we star the new era. Naz can't get worse right? I hope he improves, I do really like him as a person and player. I at least hope he improves to the point where if we need to move on from him we can get value. Naz for Nembhard and whatever other pieces? Indiana in free fall, Nemhard has proven he can start when he gets the opportunity and he can defend SGA type guards.

I don't disagree. I don't think strategy is as important in a baseball manager as it is in football or basketball. More important I think is having a guy the players like and respect. Is Buxton going to be inspired to play for a guy who never got out of the low majors and has a .411 winning percentage as a manager?

The guy has one thing going for him...
... extensive experience being patient with young players and toeing the company line for very cheap ownership.
The hire has NOTHING to do with wins and losses on the field.
