I thought Ty Lawson at least had a chance to be really good.

I thought Rubio was way overhyped (I was right!) and I figured we could get our PG of the future later in the draft.

And we did draft him! Before trading him, of course.

His college stats his senior year were really good. He got a lot of assists and didn't turn the ball over much, got a lot of steals, and basically couldn't miss a shot that year. He had a good effective field goal percentage despite not shooting 3s at a high volume (by the standards of the coming decade). I remember making a big spreadsheet to compare prospects and his stats were just really high comparatively in a lot of categories. And he won the championship that year.

But he was about as tall as me. Soo . . . yeah. That was dumb.

I also wanted Demarcus Cousins coming out of college the next year, and I was right he ended up being good, but oh man am I glad we didn't draft him!

Shabazz for me. Ugh it still hurts. Ricky Davis was a longshot when we were desperate. Good ole McHale letting his boy Danny put him over a barrel.

Ricky and Corey Brewer. I wanted the Wolves to draft them both badly. Maybe in a different iteration of the team things may have fared better.

As much as Wolves fans loved Ty Lawson and Al Thornton, they didn't have as good of a career as Ricky and Corey did, though

Yeah, Ricky Rubio is definitely on my list. To be fair, he was a really good NBA starting PG, but just didn't turn into the franchise player I thought he'd be.

The other HUGE miss of mine (along with good old Cam) was thinking James Wiseman would be the right pick over Ant and Ball. Thank God Rosas got that right!

Of course my most recent miss is Shannon, Jr., who I thought could play a major role this season to the point that we had to trade Randle to make way for him and Jaden. I still wonder if he's being mis-used (he needs the ball in his hands), but I'm running out of excuses for him. He has the size, experience, and athleticism to impact games without being a big scoring option like he was in college. Figure it out like NAW did!

Sadly, there are some similarities between Bazzy and Shannon.

Ty Lawson actually was a good PG for his first few seasons. It was a drinking problem that got to him as much as his lack of size, but he was very solid for a few years there before it all caught up to him.
