I don’t think this was a let’s get Ja Morant post. But I used Memphis as a starting point because they have the most cap space next year, a need at PF, and a guy they seem desperate to move away from even more then we do with Randle or did with D’Angelo Russell.
The main idea is I think it’s fully ripcord time with Julius and we need to be looking for under the radar scenarios that allow us to get either pics or assets that can appreciate in theory by the trade deadline next year that allow us to be players in that window much like we were this year getting Ayo.
I think Ja is an asset like that. He has nearly fully depreciated and can be had at a bargain with the idea that he can get a lot of playing time with us to either showcase his renewed interest in being employed by the NBA or we can move him for next to nothing and have lost next to nothing in the experience. Now that hinges on if Memphis thinks they need to upgrade the picks moving out inorder to get someone to take Morant like we did with D’Angelo securing 3 seconds.
Maybe there’s a way to get a different return from Memphis for Julius but I haven’t looked at their roster that closely to see if they have anyone that would fit our needs next year.
The best result in my opinion with getting Randle off the team is to get draft capital and somehow take on as little salary going forward while also dodging second apron penalty. It’s a fools errand really and I don’t understand the implications of the apron that well. But I think if we simply shed salary and are not u der the apron we can not sign FA to replace the salary leaving. So if we don’t get a player for Julius we really need a good draft pick and some draft luck to keep filling out the roster as it stands…

Brooklyn Nets are also a team under the cap that has a large draft capital stockpiled and seems like a totally unserious team. Maybe we can foist Julius on them?-

see, that's an interesting situation with an incentive to win now because they have a pick swap with Houston next year and they've been burned with lotto luck. Also, he's been in NY before and if he pouts, he can do it in anonymity.
Here's an offer that BK MIGHT consider if they're trying to improve next season:
Randle for Nic Claxton and Ben Saraf.
I think both sides ultimately turn it down but it makes less sense for us
a) truly believe Ben Saraf is the answer at PG (I've seen him play in person. I think he sucks. I'd rather have Traore but I doubt BK trades him even as they add a PG in this draft)
b) if there's a follow up deal to move Gobert, since Claxton's a center, and he's a center who needs a real PG to feed him. Otherwise, he, too loses interest on the court. Otherwise, I don't see how the money works.

Lol I have silly (as in it won't happen) but kind of serious idea.
Trade Ju for whatever you can get asset wise
Sign LeBron
Again this won't happen and I don't actually want it to, but Bron is the form that Finch seems to think Julius can take and probably would be great for this team.
Not even leak LeBron, just what he was 2 or 3 years ago, but alas this won't happen and it probably wouldn't be a good idea either way

I spent about 5 minutes looking at salaries on hoops hype and I'm in no way advocating for this deal but dealing Randle and getting back a player and some sort of decent draft assets for taking on Kuzma who might be more useful here han in Milwaukee is sort of the idea of moving Randle for some value. I'd guess right now Kuzma has negative value for his contract and Randle is at least worth his. What if the Wolves got in on a Gianni's Deal and got back some draft assets and a sneaky young/younger player for moving Randle? Again I'm not exactly thrilled with this idea but depending on what else they get in the deal it could be plenty interesting. Again Tim Connelly has made some unexpected and interesting moves at times. He seems like he has plenty of ability to get creative making deals and improving the roster.

I have no idea idea what Sacramento's appetite to trade him is, but what about Keegan Murray for Randle?
The contracts work well
Murray had a down year but I think a lot of that was due to injury. Either way I don't really know a lot about him other than at one time he was considered an up and coming player.
Seems like the type of asset that realistically is more what you can get for Randle --- depreciated but with potential upside.
For me moving Randle isn't about leveraging him for a real number 2 but instead reorienting the teams paradigm, and I would prioritize getting wing defenders. However, that because I think Jaden can be a legit second option if he doesn't have to chase opposing team's best players all game

I also don't pay any attention to the Kings. I know he's a great defender, his shooting percentages have dropped every season. Not sure why that is.

I've never actually watched him play but I get the sense that Dejounte Murray is probably the best option for a secondary ball handler.
I'm sure folks will still say Irving but I just don't see that as a worthwhile risk
Edit: looking at their contacts is pretty good confirmation for my opinion. Same length of term--- 2 more years with the last year being a player option, but Murray peaks at 33M while Irving would make 42M his option year in which he would be 37 years old.
Yes I realize Kyrie is the better player historically

I still think we realistically need to take a big swing and hit a homerun to overtake the top 2 guys. So I would gamble on Kyrie coming back and being not only healthy but engaged as well. I think he's more mature and more of a professional now at his age. And was it an ACL? Really not that big a deal with the time he's had to recooperate.
