When I reference JJ in my post above, I mean Jefferson of course…I’ve already written off the other JJ.

Monster, I agree that our Oline looks quite good. I love Jones Sr, but most would call him a below average back at this stage of his career. Still I think he can average 4-5 YPC with the holes he’s seeing. I also agree we shouldn’t expect too much from Murray this early, but still…his passes were mostly not crisp at all. We need him to be better.

Kyler is straight up trash and can't run KOCs offense cause he can't get to those staple routes over the middle of the field.

The defense is pure joy to watch and you gotta love how bought in everyone is on this team, but this offense is depressing
I wonder if KOC is still a clown. To me doesn't it make sense to create an offense that Kyler is good at? Have your staff look at all the plays he's run the last 5 years and what works for him? IDK but yesterday Kyler looked lost and confused, as bad or worse as JJ was any game last year.

For reference, the book on Kyler is he's highly accurate and very good under 10 yards, maybe 15. But when asked to throw downfield with anticipation, IDK if he can't see it (probably not) but that is where he struggles.

Just keep Kyler in the pocket, clamp down on the short routes and he can't beat you. His arm isn't strong enough, he can't see the field. You need a specific offense tailored to his skill. The offense yesterday made him look bad and even worse the Wentz.

Heck we should have tried to bring back Cousins if KOC wasn't going to drastically adapt his offense. We'll see as the weeks go on, but I feel like this is going to end badly.

Well the McCarthy era is over. Man that went poorly. I'd guess they may have taken what they could get and also let McCarthy go somewhere where he had an opportunity sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile Drake Maye...

Monster, even though JJ was a disaster here, it's weird we only got a 5th rounder for a guy that was drafted 10th just a couple years ago. Nobody is coming out and saying it directly, but there are hints that he was becoming a cancer in the locker room with his pouting, and the Wolves had to get something for him. If true, just getting a 5th for him makes more sense.

Now, wouldn't it be a Minnesota sports thing if JJ led the Giants to the NFC Championship game against Darnold and the Seabags?

There was a lot of noise out there. I still don't know what to take seriously. I can buy that he maybe wanted an opportunity. All I'll say is that the Vikings had every reason to hold onto him and see if he could still turn into something. He is physically talented young and still fairly cheap. The fact they were willing to let him go tells me all I probably need to know. I wish him the best but I'm not sure how worried I am about this coming back to bite the Vikings. For one thing McCarthy hasn't been able to stay healthy. Ironically the Giants are trading for him and is a good flyer for them who have their own guy who unfortunately can't stay healthy.

I do think where we are at this point does make me question just what happened going into last season. How all in on McCarthy were various Vikings folks including KOC? Did McCarthy's performance last year change their minds including him not staying healthy? All the injuries became a concern for me and I was a fan of his overall.

Mostly I'm just ready to move on. There will be other opportunities to add a worthwhile QB although less so if Murray completely flops this season...but let's see how things play out. Oh and the 5th round pick...eh I'm not too surprised it was that low. What has he done since being that high of a pick which to be honest some would have said was too high anyways.

KOC knew he would fail (himself predicting his own future).

The saddest thing is, JJ wasn't even that bad last year. I still had hope he'd come in and save our season this year. Now we have no hope.

I don't know...I thought overall he was really bad last season. He had a QBR of 36.1, which ranked 38th out of 45 QBs with at least 100 pass attempts. And very few QBs had a target out there like Jefferson who could turn a bad throw into a completion. I think the writing was on the wall when we brought in both Murray and Wentz, and even kept Brosmer. I suspect the Vikings were just waiting for a team with QB injuries that was willing to give us something in return. I'm a big fan of HOC, but he has to share the blame with Kwesi for this terrible draft pick.

You have to keep in mind he was basically a Rook and IDK, considering how pathetic the passing offense has been so far, it couldn't be any worse with JJ coming in. I really thought that was a very possible outcome and my preferred one. That JJ comes in to save the day at some point this year (more so before I heard he was demoted to 3rd string that is), the team and fanbase rallies behind him and we got our starter for the next decade as he makes strides getting better each season.

Now going into next year we got no QB. Maybe we can trade for Herbert? IDK, this QB carousel sucks. After seeing Kyler and Wentz, sure small sample size I suppose, but they aint it.
