Re: Vikings vs. 49ers Thread
My biggest frustration is everyone in the world knew the line was a potential problem even before Phil and Sully went down and the coaches and FO just kept their head down saying they liked who they had and the interior got their asses kicked tonight by a team who's front seven on defense was in shambles after this offseason. Then on top of our O-Line getting destroyed tonight, our highly touted D-Line got destroyed after their O-Line lost two of their 3 best lineman this off season as well. Robison seems to have regressed to a 3rd down only pass rusher and Griffen just was eaten alive by Staley. None of the ends stayed home and held the edge. Hyde was cutting back all the time and never was brought down by the end who was supposed to be there waiting for him. And on top of all that our draft picks barely if at all saw the field tonight. It makes you wonder if the early picks would have been better spent on guys who could help from day 1 while the later picks be used on the development guys like Hunter. I know I'm overreacting at this point, but it's very depressing that they did nothing special to beat us tonight. They just kicked the shit out of us in the trenches.

I didn't see it and glad I missed it. I think we will bounce back, but really do worry about stopping the run and the O-Line.

Re: Vikings vs. 49ers Thread
I was at the Twins game last night, so DVR'd the Vikes game. Do you know you can watch an entire NFL game in about 45 minutes? It made it a lot easier to not have to suffer as long!
Kahns pretty much nailed it...we were beaten up on both sides of the ball. I would include our linebackers as deserving of criticism...they were completely ineffective against a run attack that is not supposed to be very good. The score was 20-3, but I really didn't see it as being even that close. It felt a lot more like the 42-0 thrashing a few years ago at the hands of the Giants.
But I'm taking a balanced viewpoint this morning despite the ass-kicking. I still think we have a good team, and that we just put up a klunker. The fact of the matter is there just isn't a huge talent difference between teams in the NFL, and emotion can play a large part in the eventual outcome. Here's how I see last night:
1) The Vikings are denying it, but they may have come in last night a little overconfident. San Francisco had lost several players and their head coach, and their first team offense went scoreless the entire pre-season. The Vikings, on the other hand, were coming off a strong pre-season, getting Peterson back, and were the darling of the media. The betting public was so strongly behind the Vikings that the line moved an incredible 6 points in their direction over the past month! We simply aren't good enough to come into any game overconfident.
2) The 49ers were playing in a new stadium with a new coaching staff in front of a raucous Monday night crowd. Lots of emotional factors going for them.
3) The Vikings coaching staff really didn't have much to go on in preparing for this game. New coaching staff and new personnel combined with not showing any of their offense in pre-season created an unscoutable situation for the Vikings. They were clearly surprised, and looked disorganized on both sides of the ball.
There won't be any surprises this week with the Lions, and this week the emotional advantage will be in our favor with the first home game. Things look dismal right now after last night, but I think we will beat the Lions by three touchdowns this week.

Great breakdown LST.
One thing I am worried about is Blair Walsh. I need to talk to my Packers friend and see how he dealt with Mason Crosby sucking for over a year. Well I know how he dealt with it and lets just say it wasn't good. Lol

Yeah, Walsh is a legitimate concern, monster. More than any other position, place kicking is more mental than physical, and Walsh's head seems to be in a very bad place right now. He needs to turn it around quickly.

Well I am glad this game is over and it is a short week.
Re: Vikings vs. 49ers Thread
If they're going to lay an egg this season lets do it early rather than keeping the hope alive and crushing it late!
But seriously, that was one of the all time worst performances by the Vikes that I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them! To paraphrase Denny Green "They aren't who we thought there were...".
