I wonder if Heinicke's injury will make the team consider keeping only 2 QBs on the roster till he is available. That might leave a spot open for another player that may otherwise wouldn't have made the roster because of a deep position group.

Weatherly is just another one of these athletes that the coaching staff get to work with. I don't go crazy for 40 times but a guy that's 6-4 near 270 that runs a 4.6 is worth being interested in. Just seeing him without pads in the minicamp he looks pretty big probably can easily get stronger. It seems from what I read on him he is a little raw and lacks disciplined in his technique. If the coaching staff can clean that up he has plenty of physical ability to make plays. It seems like he is an interesting dude in a good way.

I wonder what his odds are of making the team are vs being on the practice squad.

Idk

FWIW here is what Edwards said when asked about him.

Q: How is Stephen Weatherly's transition from a standing linebacker back to defensive end going?

A: He was a standing 3-4 linebacker, but he possess the tools that we look for in a defensive end within our scheme of things. He's come in and he's bought in, but some things he's still having a time grasping back to. He really hasn't played true defensive end since his freshman year of college. His freshman year of college he was a true defensive end. If you go back and look at him there, you can see some of the things that we were looking at him when he came out. But he's come in and bought into what we are trying to do and guys can see the potential. He's got a chance to help us and he's working diligently to pick up on the techniques and fundamentals. He's thinking a little bit right now, but I think with more reps and the more time we put into it he'll continue to get better down the road.

Thanks for posting.

A couple thoughts on WRs. I would t read that much into Thielen getting reps over Wright except my guess is they want to see more what they have in him and they know what Wright can do. Thielen is a nice player himself getting him reps with the 1st team is something I would be doing also. If Charles Johnson is actually a good WR like we thought he was gonna be after 2014 man that would be big. I found it interesting how Preifer talked about all the stuff he could do with Moritz. He is a physical freak and he could end up sticking around if he shows real potential there. It kinda makes me think of when the Vikings decided to have Joe Webb do stuff on Special teams. Dude was and still is a beast as a special teams player.

Battle updates.
$ position Battles Updates

http://www.1500espn.com/vikings-2/2016/08/zulgad-sizing-up-vikings-position-battles-a-week-into-training-camp/

No supprises

Center - Sullivan
Split end - Johnson
Strong safety - Sendejo
Cornerback - Newman

I really wonder if Berger would be better at RG then Fusco.

Here is 53 man roster projections.

http://www.1500espn.com/vikings-2/2016/08/projecting-a-vikings-depth-chart-with-coaches-set-to-chat-sunday/

They don't see Jayron Kearse making it. No suprises the Moritz Boehringer doesn't make it. Surpised to see Antone Exum Jr. not making it either.

I am little surprised with the number of DL (9) and LB (7) they see us keeping. I can see 9 DL with the way we like to rotate in guys, but I don't think Trattou and Crichton both should make the team. I think 7 LB is a crazy number for a team that will likely play 2 LB's 50% or more of the time. I wonder if Greenway is here more fore his play or his leadership at this point.

Coles, Sherels, Thielen, Walsh,Locke, and McDermott make the team because of special teams.

Fusco out. Berger playing RG. The OL is falling apart. This is not a bad thing since it sounds like Fusco will be back in a few days and getts Berger some reps at RG while he is out.

Word has it people are way too obsessive about training camp news, though I'm not sure that came out of camp.
