Nice complete game 4-hit shutout for Diamond today for Rochester. I recognize it's only AAA, but it's great to see him stretch it out and not fall apart after 4-5 innings.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that he is still only 25, and lefties generally develop slower than righties. Heck, even Koufax was ordinary at 25, and didn't become dominant until he was 26. Diamond isn't Koufax...no, he's one of those soft tossing lefties. But those guys tend to do quite well in the bigs. You can never have enough good left-handed pitching, so let's hope Scott can return to the form he showed last year.
Speaking of Koufax, I just looked up his stats for his last year of pitching...1966. He went 27-9 with an ERA of 1.73. And he had 27 complete games...all this with an arthritic elbow! Talk about going out on top!
Should Scott Diamond be a reliever?
