Here's why I like Pelfrey, Camden. He is just a year from TJ surgery...may have come back a little early...and his ERA by month has improved by over a run every month this season. His ERA for the month of July was only 3.25 even with his bad outing Wednesday against Kansas City, including some outings against good hitting teams like Toronto, Tampa Bay and Cleveland, after an ERA of 4.66 in June. He looked really good when I saw him live in the 1-0 loss to the Angels. This is the kind of improvement you want to see from a pitcher as he enters his 13th month after Tommy John. I'm not saying he's going to be a 3.25 guy, but I really like the trend lines. My biggest fear is that he will continue to pitch well the rest of the year, and will leave us in free agency. If not, I expect him to be in the rotation in 2015.
Now if you ask me if it annoys me when he takes so much time between pitches when he has runners on base, I would say yes...and it probably annoys his fielders too. But if that is what it takes to put up good numbers, I'll accept it.
