The funny thing about the usual knocks on Teague are:
If Minnesota doesn't have him starting at point guard, who do you propose as a replacement? Look at the upcoming free agents and tell me if you see a surplus of realistic upgrades. I see Goran Dragic, Reggie Jackson, and Fred VanVleet followed by many "meh" options.
Then there's the draft where even a high draft pick could take time to develop and work out his own kinks.
I think there's a decent chance that Teague is brought back on a team-friendly deal as a stopgap at the position unless Rosas is able to trade for an upgrade or sign one of the three free agents I noted earlier.

Cam, Teague is not the same PG we got from Indiana and he hasn't adapted at all to the modern game. His defense is indifferent at best these days. I agree that from a pure stats perspective, we may not be able to find an upgrade. But from a fit and plays-with-heart perspective, I think we can do better. There is a reason why things just "felt" better when Tyus Jones was in the game and why now it's the same dynamic with Napier.

I think that's more about defense than offense though. I don't think Teague is as bad as a man defender as he is made out to be but Tyus and Napier are both upgrades on that end especially from a consistency standpoint and team defenders. If for some reason Napier still doesn't have a market in term of money I think I'd rather bring him back next year to be a bridge guy than Teague partly because of a value standpoint. It will be interesting to see what the Pg market looks like next offseason in terms of $$$. I won't be surprised if the Wolves are patient and wait things out in the offseason instead of pay a decent guy a decent chunk of money for multiple years...like they weren't willing to do with Tyus.

I've never understood the outrage about Teague. His contract was short and probably exactly market value for his worth. He plays with composure, has run an overall good offense in spite of the missed shots, an never turns the ball over. The only thing that has been a problem as I see it is that his shooting has been lower than his career averages. But we can get mad at every Timberwolf for that one. Back up point guards who have talent seem appealing because they play against 2nd units. Teague has been a total pro since he's been here, and we're going to spurn him for what? Culver at PG? Napier as a starter? No thanks. If we can trade Teague as part of a package to upgrade our PG or lead guard options, great.

You are right that his contract was probably valued correctly at the time, but unfortunately he's not living up to it. Like I responded to Cam, his game has been slowly deteriorating since we signed him. I 'm not suggesting we bench him; I'm just frustrated that we didn't get the production out of him that I feel we should have. And as good of a "total pro" he may be, he's done nothing to adapt to the modern game like many other vets have. And that sucks for us.

His defense is poor, my main complaint in years past were how slow he brought the ball up and he would pass on open 3's. Other then those things he has been alright. :-d :anxious: :-(

Well...to be fair Teague was the guy often begging his coach to play differently. Was Teague even asked to play a more modern game? How many games was he even healthy last year when they were trying to play more modern basketball (some of which was under Thibs) What you are saying about Teague is right but what is the context? To me the question is more why Wasn't probing Teague utilized in a way to have guys get wide open for 3's for him to pass to?
