It was also the Lebron and Wade show from day 1. There we plenty of jokes especially early on about how Lebron was the one running the show with Spol taking a back seat (even calling plays in a timeout lol). I'm not saying he's a bad coach, he's a decent to good coach IMO, but you are basically giving him all these props on the backs of having 2 great top 5 players and a top 10-15 player who were all very seasoned and holding it against Brooks for going up against them with a MUCH less seasoned group even if they were on even footing talent wise.
Experience is a big part of winning. Look at the Spurs who constantly beat teams who are more "talented". They have a great coach with a collection of good experienced players infused with some younger guys.
Brooks may not be at the top of most people's lists for potential future Wolves head coaches, but I certainly would not be opposed to him coming here.
At the end of the day they had similar talent and Spo made 4 straight finals winning two of them and Brooks made 1 final with no title. Lebron isn't and wasn't that much better than KD and Westbrook has been better than D Wade for years now
and yet they weren't even making it to the finals let alone winning any.[/quote]
Late to the party on this one but I think there's some significant context missing here:
2012: Thunder make Finals. Play poorly. Brooks is overmatched in ways, sticking with Perkins. Harden sucks balls.
2013: Lost Harden. Lost Westbrook in playoffs to injury.
2014: Played w/o Ibaka for 2 games of WCF. He played injured as they lost to the Spurs in 6... who destroyed Miami in the next round.
I don't think it's exactly a black-white issue. Some untimely injuries have seemed to affect OKC just as much as mediocre coaching in recent years.

Cam - I am intrigued with your Bickerstaff suggestion for head coach. It would certainly be a very Country Club thing to do, but might actually be good, too!
I can't remember if JB was around while Flip was coaching here, or whether he arrived post-Flip. And I am too lazy to look it up right now...

I'm going to set up a trade scenario.
The Boston Celtics made the playoffs without having a star on the team. They have been rumored to have interest in Kevin Love. Love has been totally misused in Cleveland and in my opinion if I were him Boston would be the team I would go to. They are a big market with a great young coach and a bunch you good young players and a billion picks in the future. The only problem with it is Kelly Olynyk. With Olynyk playing the same position, he is expendable. The Celtics have also been rumored to be attaching a first round pick to Gerald Wallace's contract. Would a Kevin Martin for Olynyk and Wallace trade entice anybody? I would love to have Olynyk playing PF for us.
Also if Love goes to LA, do you think the Lakers would be interested in trading Randle?
With Boston having Sullinger and Olynyk, I hope Love signs there making one expendable. It would probably be Olynyk due to the shoulder fiasco.

Does Kevin Martin do much for Boston? They'd be giving up a young guy with value for diminishing returns on Martin? Plus, they've been paying for Wallace's corpse. Seems like now that it's an expiring... he'd actually have more value next year too.

I'm not sure Boston would be interested in Martin. I did read that Boston was willing to attach a first round pick with Wallace. The whole shoulder fiasco would mean that Boston would probably have to part ways with Olynyk to get Love. Martin is our best trade chip. Maybe it would have to be a three team trade where Boston gets a pick in return.

Why trade a starting caliber player for yet another backup power forward? No thanks on Boston.

I think Olynyk can be a solid starter.

TRKO - I think Stevens is a great coach and gets the most of his players.
