I never got the impression that Glen wanted that role combined, unless you are suggesting that he hire JVG strictly as POBO. But even then, he'd want to wait a bit to fully evaluate Mitchell (that's the politically correct thing to do even if his mind is mostly made up before he takes the job).

They're a third of the way through the season and regressing, how much further evaluation is required?

Keep in mind that whoever that new POBO is probably will want every available asset at his fingertips. If the team is awful, he owns zero of the mess, so he can afford to tank for a high draft pick with Mitchell at the helm under the auspices of evaluating him. Plus, the pool of coaching candidates will probably be at it's peak later this spring.

I blame Thad Young.

I could care less what Glen wants at this point. We need a real name to legitimize mess. If JVG wants it all, give it to him.

Makes sense regarding the number of available quality coaches increasing in time. On the other hand I just don't see how the current young talent will be well served by almost 50 more games like this. Either way a PBO should be in place sooner rather than later in order to do a real evaluation, not do so after the fact.

Right, but unfortunately Glen makes the decisions, not you.

By the way, JVG may still be stuck in the last century as well....

Sure. The Wolves suck. And Sam Mitchell isn't a very good NBA coach.

But let's remember something very important...

Sam Mitchell wasn't hired to be the head coach. Sidney Lowe wasn't supposed to be the lead assistant. Adelman and Saunders weren't supposed to be more than Christmas Card photo participants.

The quick start blurred the fact that one of the most powerful men of any NBA team died right before the start of the season. As I wrote then... the Wolves (and Taylor) got yet another season-long pass. Right after getting a season pass last season (injuries leading to Towns).

It's frustrating. It sucks. But it's nothing the Wolves fanbase hasn't been through before. Whether it's a quick process... or painstakingly slow and not resolved until summer... it's critical that the Wolves make a great hire for the POBO and subsequent coach.

The team has SOME talent. Now it needs a NEW vision. Let's hope they find the right guy for the gig.

Yeah, the thought of another 50 games of this is very depressing. Can Taylor ignore it?

One oddball thought would be to bring back Rick Adelman as "interim" head coach for the remainder of the season. I don't know if he still has a "consultant" role with the team, but he certainly has a vested interest with his son on the coaching staff.

Largely agree with this. It's easy to blame Sam for everything because it's the path of least resistance, but there was probably a reason he hadn't had another head coaching gig since Toronto.

It's also a lot uglier to admit that may be - just may be - our roster isn't as talented as we all think they are.

Talent and heart are two different things and the team's heart is being sapped with each passing game.
