Love Visiting Boston This Weekend

Really think the Warriors would decline the chance to pair Love and Curry because of Thompson? Please. Don't kid yourself. That's a no brainer for Golden State. You do what it takes to get the star player.

Also, I haven't seen these reports saying the Cavs think they can get Love without the No. 1 pick being involved. I've seen beat writers suggest that the Cavs wouldn't want to include it. Uhh, no shit they wouldn't. They're going to try to offer Waiters/Bennett/Thompson in hopes that we bite. That's textbook. Reality is that they'll get Love if they offer the No. 1 pick in a package. Remember right after the lottery, their GM said they'd be open to anything in regards of that pick. Doesn't necessarily give off the feel that it's untouchable, especially in Love trade talks.

Alex - I agree it's unlikely any team has made its best offer yet. So I wouldn't expect a deal to happen until we get within a few days of the draft. But at some point I think Flip will need to pull the trigger on a deal for Love because I see the chances of keeping Love after next season as pretty remote. I think at least one of the following deals will ultimately be on the table:

1. David Lee, Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes for Love and either Budinger or Martin.

2. Green, Olynyk, Bass and 6th pick for Love and either Budiinger or Martin

3. Wallace, Olynyk and #6 for Love

4. Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler, # 16 and #19 for Love.

5. 1st pick and Waiters and Varejao for Love.

Khans - I'm not suggesting that Flip let all the other teams know that he intends to trade Love no matter what. I'm simply saying that Flip has to have his own mind made up. If he thinks we can do well enough next season to persuade Love to stay, then he should have his mind made up to keep Love. If not, then he should intend to trade him.

Most teams probably already suspect that Flip intends to trade him. But it doesn't really matter much what they think. Flip's leverage comes from the competition among the teams that want Love. It's possible that Flip would get a better deal if he made it entirely clear to the rest of the League that he intends to trade Love by draft day, hence triggering a more intense bidding war. The message from Flip would be something like he following -- we are reluctantly open to trading Love but only if a deal gets done before draft day after which he's off the market. That would help create a sense of seriousness and urgency to enhance competition among suitors and draw out the best offers. It's a proven marketing strategy - "GREAT PRODUCT AVAILABLE FOR LIMITED TIME. DONT MISS THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY."

Truth is that we don't know what Flip us saying or doing behind the scenes. Nor do we know what, if anything, Love or his agent has told Flip. It's possible that Flip was in on Love's trip to Boston as part of a strategy to help stimulate a bidding war and/or stimulate a groundswell of excitement in Boston to pressure the Celtics to up their offer. I'm just hoping that Flip is as savvy as he thinks he is. If so, then I think we will trade Love this summer and end up with a good deal.

Jeez Lip, the Celtic trades you have here are awful for us. One more year of Love would be better than any of that garbage. My preference by far would be the Cavs deal. If we could get the #1 pick meaning Wiggins, all I would need is Waiters and filler to do that deal.

Lip, the only issue I have with what you're saying is what Flip does depends heavily on what other teams do and what Love wants to do. What if other teams don't include their best asset because Love refuses to at least pick up his option for the following year? It just seems a bit foolish to want Flip to make that decision when he's not the one controlling all of the moving parts.

As far as a trade with the Celtics goes if we could get Green, Olynyk, and picks I'd happy, especially if we could get Randle at 6. In my opinion Dieng, Olynyk, and Randle would be a near ideal (in theory) rotation at PF/C.
