It's likely best this team can get by trading vets is 2nd round picks. I value those but it's not like we are passing up getting 1st rounders it something. I think they should deal Tolliver but the return is probably gonna be a 2nd rounder and it may not be a very high one.
You're probably right, Monster. However, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a team out there willing to give us a protected 2019 or 2020 first round pick for Derrick Rose. He can be a difference-maker as a spark off the bench for a contending team down the stretch - a team like the Rockets for example. Yet, I hate to give up Rose. If we can keep him longer term on a very reasonable deal, I'd keep him unless we can get a 1st round or very high 2nd round pick. Even then, I might be inclined to keep him.
I agree that Tolliver is the guy we should definitely trade. But I also agree it's unlikely we get better than a mid-2nd round pick. I'd shop him to the Sixers for Chicago's 2nd round pick, which should be a top 3 in that round. I don't think the Sixers would do that deal, but who knows. I think we could get the Sacramento 2nd rounder from them for Tolliver. But that pick will likely be in the low 40s so it's not a great asset. I'd still do it though.
I'd hate to trade Taj Gibson, but he's a guy who would fetch decent value. He's so solid on both sides of the ball. The only thing he lacks that teams like in a PF is 3-point shooting. But he does everything else well and has actually developed a decent corner three. His skills, reliability, leadership and savvy would make him highly valuable to a contending team down the stretch. He's another guy, like Rose, who I think could possibly fetch a low 1st round or high 2nd round pick.
I would LOVE to deal Teague, but his contract makes him very difficult to deal for any value and combined with his current injury status he's untradeable.
I think finding a team with enough salary match for Taj is gonna be tough. I think the Wolves May have to take back money for next season and even if that means a first round pick it certainly gives me pause.
At what point do you deal guys like this basically saying the season is over while having an interim coach you want to succeed and evaluate? I LOVE future assets BUT this team could use a bit of respectability about it especially the way this season started. There is a human aspect as well. The trade deadline being earlier hurts because another week or so would make likely it a bit easier to make a decision.
Keep in mind dealing Rose which you like me have pause in doing some would have to ok it because of the implied trade clause. I'd wonder if he would be wanting to do that? Tolliver I think would be more willing. He has been bounced around before and may be happy to move onto another place especially a team like Detroit where he has played before even if it's for a different coach.

Have we been so beaten down over the years that we feel cheated if we don't have a shot in the lottery?!?
We are just 2 games back in the loss column for the 8th spot, and not far behind a few higher seeds. We have managed to stay within striking distance despite our injury problems (a tribute to Kat and our veteran depth). We have a reasonable chance to make a run going into the all-star break, get healthy, and come out firing on all cylinders for the stretch run.
The island wants to see Kat and our young players continue to develop, our young, inexperienced coach to grow, and head into the playoffs in a better position than last year.
Let's leave the lottery years behind us.

We have one of the tougher schedules in the league to close out the year. The grind is just starting and it could get out of hand quick and put us firmly in the lottery if we blink.

Ya Teague injury really hurts because I doubt teams will gamble on him if he is hurt (I do think he had value before hand though)
If I was the wolves. I would offer Rose or Teague and toliver for fultz.
I think we need to gamble on a young guy like fultz. Now there is a good chance he is done but that is type of trade I would like the wolves to try and do.
6ers do it because they add a PG they need and a shooter in tolliver. They also get off fultz contract for the next 2 years.
But in general I'll be upset if toliver is on this team past the deadline.
I'll be very upset if we just waive toliver and Bayless

Percent chance of that Teague Tolliver deal happening is zero because Teague has that player option for next year. Even if those guy were both expirings I think the Sixers would want more for Fultz than that. I'm not against gambling on Fultz though. Sad we can't get Patton back in a deal for Tolliver. Jk. :) I saw he might be getting close to being able to healthy to play in the G-league though.

Taking a flier on a guy like Fultz is the type of move a team like the Wolves needs... a bit of luck.
I'm cool with it.

Fultz has whatever it is we call the yips. I feel bad for the guy, but the track record of golfers and baseball players recovering from that is really bad.
Side note: I don't like how Fultz's agent has pushed these transparently false stories, but even more than that, I don't like the way a lot of guys in the media push back on that and insist that it is "mental" in a way that implies that somehow it's his fault or that he's somehow too mentally weak. That's not an accurate description of the yips or similar conditions (like stuttering), and talk like that actually increases the pressure and anxiety that exacerbates the condition.
The kid looked like a promising prospect, but he'll need some fundamental changes to deal with his condition. A change of scenery would probably help, but being the number 1 pick in the social media age really stacked the deck against him. Honestly, he needs something to help him tune that out and separate himself from the criticism, and, this sounds crazy, but I've read stories about how patients with severe anxiety induced by terminal cancer have been treated with psilocybin (ingredient in "magic" mushrooms) and talk therapy and it's shown real results. The food writer Michael Pollan wrote about this recently too. If nothing else helps, given the money and career at stake, maybe it's not a bad idea for Fultz.

Our whole franchise has the yips. Fultz would be perfect for us.
