Abe- Is Nunnally and Bayless unplayable because Thibs picked them up or Thibs coached him? Once again, anyway you slice it, Thibs the PBO or Coach is the problem. Your choice is to select which Thibs is at fault.

I wish our players would get upset about all the losing. But I guess it's just not our culture, starting at the top.

I think that is true for some of them. The soft, low effort low competitive ones like Wigs.
KAT could even be a little more competitive I think. Okogie seems to care as does Rose.

Kek, I acknowledge that Thibs has been much better this season in allocating minutes, and I'm not surprised at the minutes stats you cite. But I think he has reverted to his natural form the last 2 weeks, and it is hurting us. We don't know that Rose and Covington were in street clothes last night because Thibs played them 40 minutes coming back from injury, but we can be fairly confident few if any other coaches would have done the same with a returning player. Other coaches understand the concept of "the season"...Thibs' calling card is that his attention span only extends to "the game".
I get that the bench was terrible last night, but you and I differ on the reason for that. Thibs has a history of signing or trading for players who got significant minutes with successful teams, and then burying them on the bench...is it any wonder that they stink when he is finally forced to put them into a game? Aldrich, Tolliver and Bayless are three examples that come to mind, but I'm sure we could find several more if we researched it a couple minutes. None of these guys are great players to be sure, but they were all good enough to play significant minutes for coaches who understand the concept of "the season". And yet they automatically become mutts when they move to a Thibs team...did they all simply forget how to play basketball once they moved to the Wolves, or might Thibs deserve some blame here? I understand that we are not likely to win last night's game regardless of what Thibs does, but isn't that all the more reason to not play two players 40+ minutes? Will Tyus and Wig become the next two guys sitting next to Rose, Covington and Rose on the bench? I'm not blaming Thibs for last night's loss, and I respect your defense of him, but I don't think it is mere coincidence that reserves who make important contributions on other teams almost ALWAYS become terrible players when they play for Thibs.
He understands basketball and has had some success during his career, but I think he might be the worst bench coach in the history of the NBA.

That is such BS. We are talking about our 4th string PG and our last wing on the bench.
There will be games where Bayless and Nummley play well and hold for fort down. But there end of rotation guys for a reason because over the long run they will have more bad games then good games. There is variance on how players are going to play its just unfortunate that they both were trash last night.
Blaming thibs for literally everything is BS and puts no blame on the million dollar players who actually play.
This is not a video game. There is a shit ton of variance and luck involved to building a roster. Same teams that get praised the sixers and celtics are the same teams that drafted MCW, Noel, Okafor, james young, fab melo, RJ hunter

Are we sure the fight was about caring so much about winning + losing?
Omri Casspi has played a whopping 26 games in Memphis... Temple 37 games.
Both players are on their 7th team in 9 seasons... and neither is the heartbeat of that club.
It's just as likely that the fight was about cards or women as it is about caring so much about winning and losing.

We are in the same boat. I'm fine if thibs gets fired. But I always feel like I defend thibs because it's so skewed against thibs it lets the players off the hook.

In no way should you ever not blame Thibs though. Deflecting blame from him is nonsensical. Yes the players are at fault for sucking and Thibs is at fault for being a crappy coach/PBO. Both are the issue.
Do you disagree a coach like Stevens or Pop with this team for 3 years instead of Thibs would have them under .500? They'd be in the 3-5 seed range IMO this season. It doesn't take much to swing 6-7 games either way.

NOBODY IS DEFLECTING BLAME... BUT IT'S LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BE ON THIS FORUM LATELY BECAUSE SOME POSTERS ARE BLAMING THIBS IN EVERY SINGLE POST... FREE THROWS -- BLAME THIBS!!! LAZY DEFENSE -- BLAME THIBS!!! BAD POST-GAME MEAL -- BLAME THIBS!!![/highlight]
Maybe I'm in the minority. I like to discuss people playing basketball... not loud overweight 55 year old men in suits.
I'm going back to the NBA history card. The entire 70-year history of the NBA has been built on the idea/reality that players win games... NOT coaches. It's been a superstar league in every way. Every single year. EVER.
This has to be the only fanbase (at least on this site) who remains convinced coaches are more important than players.
I'm not defending Thibs. I'm literally calling for him to be fired in nearly every single post I write at this point to prove it. I don't like him. I think he sucks. I think his system is antiquated and he's being tuned out by the players. I don't like listening to him on my television (although I love hearing the disdain for him in Jim Peterson's voice). I think the Wolves made a terrible mistake giving him the Executive gig, too. I don't like the type of PG he seems to like. I don't like that he hasn't embraced the modern NBA as other coaches. I don't like his interviews. I don't like how he looks. I think his hair is stupid looking. And I think he doesn't buy very good suits, relatively speaking.
But blaming him in every post makes this a tough board to participate in sometimes. Ultimately, that's on me. If that's what it is... it's what it is... and no amount of attempts at reason from the likes of me is going to change it. It's on me to leave if it comes to that.
End rant.
