They want a more ready made situation for winning and getting a veteran like Favors over drafting another rookie is going to give us a better pitch to get a better coach.

Maybe, but I doubt it's really much of a differentiator. A coach would be more likely to want some control over the roster, than care whether he has the unenviable task of trying to develop Brandon Ingram.

There's not an NBA coach in the world who would rather develop a player over getting a ready made one who is a borderline all-star and still only 24 years old.

Eh, I think most, if not all coaches, prefer having "win now" veterans over rookies. Even more so if this veteran is still just 25 years old and really talented in his own right.

Sure they do, my point is it's not THAT big of a deal breaker if you're looking to coach the Wolves now. Like I said, it will be hard to screw this up.

I think it actually could be. Coaches like to walk into situations ready to win immediately. I can't blame them. Who do you think helps your team win more games next year? Favors or Ingram/Simmons? To me, that's a no-brainer.

Just can't see a coach saying - I like the contract, the situation and everything else about the opportunity, but if you can't get me Derrick Favors instead of Brandon Ingram I'm not coming. C'mon.

That would be true if we were the only team needing a head coach of high caliber. Said hypothetical coach will have options and likely will go somewhere that's ready to start competing right away. That's the difference I think.

It's not a perfectly comparable situation because we have more attractive pieces than New York, but we saw Steve Kerr chose Golden State over New York. We also saw Billy Donovan choose Oklahoma City over us and other venues. Winning immediately matters to these guys.

Again I don't disagree with your premise Cam, I'm just saying it's just one roster spot.

Agree. You are both "right". Coaches want to win now. But I can't see the Favors vs. a top 2 pick being a tipping point for any perspective coach. The real tipping point would probably be do I want to work for Glen Taylor and the country club?

I'll say this if Adelman and others were excited about the Wolves roster back then I would think they would be dying to work with what they have right now.

To me the bottom line for the Wolves is getting a legit NBA player with that pick either via drafting the right guy or trading for one which has actually been suggested by Jon K of the AP a couple times so it's possible the wolves may be considering that. The only way they can really screw up is if they draft a guy that's either out of the league or barely useful like Wes. They don't have to absolutely nail the pick just get a legit starter (or maybe even the right guy that was 6th man) and that would be a big time win.
