I don’t understand it either.
2nd apron team can't offer cash in trades. The perception was that because we're in the 2nd apron that we couldn't accept cash in a deal

That's possible but if they didn't they could have taken something more like the Boston offer.

That's possible but if they didn't they could have taken something more like the Boston offer.
but then they'd have 2 picks they don't want.

If they do pick someone, it's either a stash, or a 2-way. And if it's a 2-way, what 2-way are we bumping? Probably Newton...
