Well for the past couple years I've been championing the need for a point guard for this team. I brought up several names over that time, thinking if we could get not just a placeholder, but a very good player it would unlock the potential of the team. Last year I thought Julius was a natural chip to use in the pursuit. Well it turned out to be NAZ with Julius also moved to create the necessary room. I kept hearing there was nobody worthwhile we would be able to get with the assets we had. And I would reply that there was always a way if the will was strong. As it turned out we acquired the best option possible, and if you've been on X this morning you know that the national narrative about this team has completely flipped. The Wolves are being called the best show in the league and a lot of pundits are waking up to the possibility that if this team can find a serviceable backup big, the chip is in play. Ant's our best player, but now we've added the "Slim Jim" to go along with our other slim. The guy capable of unlocking the door to our best future. The guy with the brilliant basketball mind who in combination with our best player can cause a parade to take place. Yes my friends, we needed a point guard and we've got the right one.
Guy calls his shot and then boast cause he was able hit the ocean :P

I kid, but the early returns are pretty crazy in terms of the difference it made for Ant as well as the whole team

For what it's worth, my contention in acquiring a PG was that I couldn't see how they could get a non placeholder point guard cause teams are going to just move franchise star point guards. Funny enough Lemelo is exactly who I had in mind in saying that

Lamelo at one point was a guy I thought might be available but do you actually want him? I've always liked him but the injuries were a legit concern. It was only a few months ago he was lumped in with other talented PGs teams didn't seem to want that bad. Ja ended up being the guy that really got dumped. Trae Young did too but then he got paid this summer. Meanwhile Lamelo went on to have a pretty healthy season and have likely his best season in terms of driving winning. It was a draft with a lot of lead/scoring guards and the Hornets got the guy they wanted plus they acquired White to be their guy till the next guy was ready. What a difference a few months make.

I agree Cool in terms of fit Ball is the best fit of the options that were out there. I was always skeptical about being able to add a super talented guy but I actually always thought there might be a chance to add someone but I wasn't getting my hopes up. What really makes me intrigued now is we have Ball and Ayo as guards. Not too long ago we were like hey can NAW or someone or Donte and a combination of those guys be the guy or Dillingham? Hell we have TSJ and we don't have to hang all out hopes on him turning out to be a really good starter. It would be nice if he turned into a 6th man type but the team won't be sunk without that development. Back to Ayo I think he could take a meaningful leap offensively this year and be a heck of guy coming off the bench. I think this off-season was a very good one. Hopefully Ball stays healthy that's my concern with him
if he can stay healthy there is plenty there like you have said.

The minutes he was out there we had a lot of defensive break downs. End of bench big at best, should not be in the rotation. Would prefer Cody Williams gets minutes and we play smaller.
Lyles hasn't been impressive but I think we will see him round into form. Cody Williams I think will end up with some chances to get minutes and might play himself into some opportunities especially I'd a guy like Lyles falters. We kinda need Lyles to not suck because it would be handy to have a guy like him to be able to play as a small ball offensive center. I think he fits the system actually. Of course it's worth remembering if he really isn't good he can be cut at sole point and they could bring another player in. Connelly really did a nice job of adding talent and creating flexibility in adding more down the line if needed.

I can't disagree with either of you that Lyles didn't show much in our first game. But I'm not worried about him. While he didn't rebound like we need him to and didn't do anything particularly noteworthy, he looks like a veteran out there...and that's what we need when Finchy puts Joan in. I think we'll see Finchy go with the Joan/Trey handcuff for a few more games to see if it works out.
