TeamRicky wrote:An interesting second round Eurostash pick is Jonathan Jeanne. He's built like Rudy Gobert at 7"2 and 7"6 wingspan but about 25 pounds skinnier. Like Gobert, he's very athletic for a big man. He's already an excellent shot blocker, good defender, and very effective scorer in close range. His offensive range is limited but he's working to expand his range. He also needs to bulk up. Would be nice to take a flyer on him, let him bulk up and develop on someone else's dime and bring him over when he's ready. He's still 18 years old and 5 years younger than Gobert.
Here's a draft profile: "NBA Comparison: Tyson Chandler/Samuel Dalembert
Strengths: Amazing wingspan (measured at 7-6 feet) ... Great shot blocker ... Rim Protector ... Good weak side defender ... Active off the ball defender ... Denies passing lanes with his long reach and positions himself well ... His size, wingspan and reach make him a tough opponent to score over, because he can either block or alter shots ... If he continues working hard he can become a game changer on the defensive end of the floor due to his blocking ability ... Good athlete ... Great leaping ability ... Very mobile for someone his size ... Solid coordination for a big man ... Runs the floor extremely well ... Good lateral quickness ... Can defend the Pick and Roll at an acceptable rate ... Really energetic on the defensive end when motivated ... Can play above the rim ... An ideal lob target due to his size, reach and jumping ability ... Moves well without the ball ... Aggressive offensive rebounder... Nice footwork with his back to the basket ... Has the ability to become really good on Pick and Roll situations on the offensive end... Has a nice touch around the basket ... Improving mid-range game ... He is trying to expand his range to the 3-point line ... Above average passer ... Solid ball handling ...
Weaknesses: He barely weights 200 lbs ... He needs to bulk up his body to play at the next level ... Has narrow shoulders, so it remains to be seen whether he can really add considerable muscle to his frame nd not lose any of his speed and agility ... Has very little lower body strength, which creates balance issues ... Must become more physical... Average post-defender... Gets pushed around by stronger players ... Relies too much on his long reach... Still adapting to his body ... Sometimes he needs time to gather before jumping ... He often puts his hand down when he tries to block a shoot, which leads to be called for fouls ... Jumps at pump-fakes and hesitations ... Has to learn to jump vertically when trying to block a shot to be even more effective ... He is marginally average defensive rebounder, mainly because either forgets to box out or gets pushed around ... Very raw offensively... Doesn't have a go-to post-move ... He mainly turns to his left shoulder when he posts up the defender, which makes him predictable... Not a good finisher at the rim just yet... Has problems finishing through contact ... His shooting form needs some work ... Shooting Mechanics aren't always consistent ... Needs to cut down turnovers ... Has to learn to set harder screens ... Doesn't always roll hard to the basket when he sets a screen on Pick and Roll situations ... Sometimes he struggles to catch the ball ... He still has to put a lot of work on his mid-range game ...
Notes: An intriguing prospect ... He is still pretty raw, but has a lot of NBA upside ... Hasn't been able to crack the rotation of his new team, Le Mans, this year ... Has been a member of the French Junior National Teams ... Averaged 8.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game in 2015 U18 European Championship in 2015 ..."
Holy crap! I'm 6'4", and just under 200 lbs and I'm pretty skinny. How can a guy be 7'2", 200? Lol. I think Manute Bol weighed more than that.
Yeah it's pretty crazy right? One of the guys I play ball with was saying he was 165 or something like that and he is 6'3" broad shoulders etc. I weighed like 150 in like 4th or 5th grade and I am 5'10" now and was certainly not that tall then.
Some of it has to be bone density. A few years ago I was measured at an employee wellness program event and they said I could probably have no calcium and not move for years and my bones would still be fine. lol
LST, that may be good value overall, but this team doesn't need more rookies, if we get one more (it will be Buddy), than that will be fine. If we're looking to trade out of that pick, I'd do it for a vet if Buddy is gone. I'd have a couple numbers ready to call if I were Thibs, maybe Bismack?
Assuming we stay at 5-6, personally I'd be very happy with Dunn, Ellinson, Brown, Chriss, Murray and Hield. I see this has our last chance at adding a high lottery pick. I differ from most on this board who feel we need at add all these high priced vets this year. I don't see the need. Couple smart pick ups to fill some holes and this team should be a playoff team.

To me I do think you can be too young but I also think of you really like the young talent in the draft and you can have a few roster spots you can fill with vets there is no reason to turn down cheap young talent. The Wolves have done that too much for my liking even though I agreed and or understood why they made the moves they did. It is a tough line.
As for trading down from 5/6 (if that's were we pick) to 15 and 19 with Denver you better really like a bunch of guys after your pick. Flip looked terrible after he traded down his first year and he did pretty well there although it could have been even better. Basically are there 10-15 guys left you really like to trade down from who is available at 5/6? Idk. Right now the answer would be no unless Inwas certain I was gonna get Sabonis at 15 which who knows and at this point it's too early to know. IMO if you trade down a bunch of spots it's usually good if the team that trades up REALLY values a guy where you are at and you really make them pay. The Nets looked like geniuses getting a bunch of picks from Houston to get Eddie Griffin. Richard Jefferson went on to be a terrific player and even if they had just gotten Jason Collins out of the deal sadly he was more useful than Griffin ended up being. Crazy Eddie Griffin would have been about to turn 34 later this month. I'd imagine he would be jacking up 3's and swatting shots for some team somewhere in the basketball world about now.
The strength of this draft is its deepness. One of the reasons is the rule change making it less risky for college players to declare for the draft. I really hope we get a top 3 pick, but if we ended up with the 6th or 7th pick, I would at least consider trade down possibilities as I think there will be some good talent available in the top 20-24 picks.
I know this doesn't belong in this thread, im watching this SA/OKC game, Kawhi Leonard is a beast on the boards, amazing. Not only does he get the board but runs the break effectively. Hopefully we can see an improvement from Wig on the boards this year. That right there would go along way towards improving our overall rebounding numbers. Tibs has mentioned this in most of his interviews. Leonard is amazing though.

Well Jeanne is skinny but not that skinny. He's listed at 210 pounds. Manute Bol was 5 inches taller and weighs about 10 pounds less. He's only 18 and Gobert at 18 wasn't much heavier.

I can't find stats to prove it (I looked around a bit) but when OKC jumped up to 50 wins and the playoffs Durant's 3rd year it wasn't just his offense improvement but I kept hearing he had committed himself defensively that year that was another significant thing. Anyone have some thoughts on that? It seems possible Wiggins could make some jump on that end this year.
Outside of the top two guys, I take Dunn hands down. I think in the playoffs it's essential for the primary ball handler to make plays for HIMSELF as well as others, he does both well. He could step right in and be and upgrade IMO. He's very unselfish and creates well for others and has the upside to be a great defender, and appears very mature.
