How dare you speak negatively on the great 20-year old.

I know what this is all about. The almighty college prognosticator Cam didn't identify someone as a good player before the draft. No, somebody else did. So now because it wasn't his guy, and he plays like a rookie (which he is) we are going to have to hear about it. Much in the same way we have to hear about DLO every time he makes 2 shots in a row, or Thibs and the Knicks. You are so transparent.

Oh, oh, Abe...your use of the forbidden term above is forcing another...

PMP ALERT!!!!!!

How do you define a "plus player offensively"? If it's PPG, I will grant you that he is not a plus scorer, and his raw box score numbers are not going to impress anyone. But my eye test tells me that his offensive instincts (spacing, ball movement, IQ, etc) are surprisingly good for a 20-year-old rookie, and the offense seems to run quite efficiently whenever he is on the court. And guess what? The evil on/off numbers support my eye test. According to the on/off numbers at Breaking the Glass, the Wolves score 2.2 more points per 100 possessions when Jaden is on the court compared to off...only KAT (+10.2), Beasley (+6.4) and Ricky (+3.5) have better offensive on/off numbers than he does among Wolves with a sufficient sample size. But of course it's his defensive prowess and success that makes him such an intriguing rookie...the Wolves give up 4.3 fewer points per 100 when Jaden is on the court, a number bested only by Vando (-5.8) among Wolves with over 500 minutes. His combined offensive and defensive on/off is a very good +6.5 points, second only to KAT's +9.8. Way too early to form any final conclusions, but he looks like he may be a major late first round steal for Rosas.

And that brings to last night game's PMP:

Jaden McDaniels (+11!)- See above. Stellar defense despite a disappointing 0-4 on 3's.

Jaylen Nowell (-16, and much worse without garbage time): Like I said in this thread, EyeChart's mid-range is almost automatic. But he is forced to play out of position at PG with two PGs out, and the offense struggled when he was running the point. His big minus makes sense despite his scoring an efficient 14 points in only 24 minutes. This kid can score, that's for sure.

Juancho (-20): Juancho has value only if he is rebounding the basketball and making threes...if he's not, he is going to hurt us with his poor defense. Last night Juancho had just one rebound in his 18 minutes and made only one 3-pointer. It's not difficult to see why he was a -20.

Layman (+5): Sunshine has surprised me with his defense all year (Monster corrected me pre-season when I said Jake wasn't a good defender), but especially when he doesn't have to guard PFs. He is quick and athletic enough to stay with SFs and is a disruptive influence on defense. He had another poor offensive night ( I don't think he will ever be a good 3-point shooter...his points are going to come on cuts to the basket), but he again was impressive on defense. I guess that's why Finch has started him in most games this season. I still am hoping that Culver can eventually take Sunshine's place in the rotation, but he's clearly not there yet.

Juancho's rebounding drives me absolutely batty, he tries hard don't get me wrong but he's just tall enough and has just enough hops to juuuust miss out on almost every single rebound.

I'm beginning to think many of our posters were kidnapped and replaced by teenage girls. When SP is suggesting people grow the fuck up you know there's a problem... or something

Mcdaniels >>> Okogie and Culver. He's younger and has shown more glimpses of potential than both of those two combined. If we gave a lottery pick and Okogie some room to grow and improve why are we not giving this kid the same amount of leash? He should get more considering he was our second first round pick in a weaker draft. I remember the biggest concern was his immaturity. I havent seen any of that, proof that he's already improving.
