One oddball thought would be to bring back Rick Adelman as "interim" head coach for the remainder of the season. I don't know if he still has a "consultant" role with the team, but he certainly has a vested interest with his son on the coaching staff.
That is a tremendous idea actually. Rick had checked out during his stint here, but at least he's a bonafide NBA coach. He would restore order and get the team to act like a bunch of professionals. It sure beats the mindless douchebag we have running things right now. And let me not sugarcoat it, if you're still reluctant to blame Mitchell for the lions share of this mess, you are as far removed from reality as he is. Every aspect of this team is in regression right now. I think I could be coaching this team and you would see incremental improvements as the year progresses. There is no excuse for this collection of players to be floundering so bad right now. We don't even play to anyone's strengths.
I too can't stand another 50 games under Sam and it can only hurt or stifle the development of our young core. However, I still lean toward waiting until the season ends and starting next season with a clean slate - A new POBO and head coach untainted by this season's debocle. As Q suggested, we will likely have more choices then than now -- a bigger pool and more interest since some top candidates won't want to take over a mess mid season.
I would definitely avoid hiring a new POBO as a prelude to hiring a new head coach because I think we need to hold both positions open initially just in case we need to give both positions to the same guy in order to get the right guy. For example, someone like JVG or coach Cal might be interested only if they get both positions.
NOT!!! I think Bazz had the worst plus minus on the team. Bazz had a good offensive game, but his defense leaves a lot to be desired. When Bazz comes in, the other team goes on a run. He just has no awareness on the defensive end and when he's in the game often it feels like we have 4 guys trying to stop 5.

Yeah, Rick really makes sense. He doesn't want the gig full time i'm sure, but he would at least give us some proper flow and wouldn't be such a dumbass. At least our bench would have one legitimate NBA authority figure.
Please no Rick Adelman. He's not a long term solution and then we have to worry if the old man wants to keep coaching or promote his son. I'd rather stick it out with Sam until the offseason and hopefully then pursue an elite coach.

The idea is that he would just be a bridge to the next guy. We can't afford to have our young guys continue to learn and play under Mitchell.
No fucking way on Adelman! It really is true that as time passes, you only remember the good things. Adelman did no teaching whatsoever, and only wanted to install his offense, and nothing else.
While I want a different coach, I am not sure that will fix this mess. I have witnessed something that I just don't understand, and that is players that really don't care about winning. Wiggins is at the top of the list in this category. We need to bring back Greg Steimsma, and have him provide a little "old school" justice on these guys in practice. Maybe bring in Rip Torn and have him throw some wrenches at the guys. If I was coaching this team we would be practicing at 6 am tomorrow.
Mitchell, Saunders and Adelman all are/were fans of the long jumpshooting offense, and it has to go along with anyone associated with the county club coaching staff. The advantage of coach shopping right now is that they can use the rest of the season to work on things, rather than sucking out of the gate next season. We also would have less competition right now, which might be the biggest obstacle. Call scotty brooks and offer him the job. Let him recommend someone for POBO.

Yes, only as interim. We should have a lot of head coach candidates after the season. We have to hope we find and hire a really good one.
It's unfortunate that the Wolves do not have a short to possible long term solution on the bench. Gates? It seems incredibly unlikely that Mitchell is demoted or let go before the summer. I think we need to hope that somehow the stars align before then.
