This is great news for us. I think the Warriors job was the best available (barring OKC's possible head coaching vacancy). Our situation is far better than NY's.

I always knew Kerr wasn't a complete idiot.

I agree, great news for us. It will be interesting to see if this 5 year deal trend continues. Coaches seem to be much more demanding of guaranteed years since Boston hired Stevens. Coaches are tired of getting little chance to build a program their way and with has-been coaches seemingly on the decline, it feels like a new era of coaching. I hope the Wolves dont fuck this one up.

So far, we have stan going to detroit and kerr to golden state. Its a good move for both as stan would do well there building around drummond and kerr is a nice fit to the warriors as the warriors are a bit like the suns teams that kerr was building that can actually defend.

I'll miss Kerr as a broadcaster I thought he had some of the best good thoughts info/to facepalm ratio of any national basketball broadcaster. I like Kerr and I think he made a wise decision in many ways to take the GS job. I think there is a good chance he will be a good coach. On the other hand I think its funny how people chased after the guy like he was some amazing coaching prospect. Maybe he is, but is he really better than some assistant on a playoff team?

Which is why I think we haven't heard much from Flip. I think he has a couple assistants that he is very interested in that are in the playoffs. Plus you never know what head coach might get fired. Imagine if McHale would have gotten fired by the Rockets...Maybe the Spurs win the Championship and they fire Pop for winning too many Championships. LOL My guess is Flip has a backup plan that he figures would be ok if it was the worst case scenario. Maybe thats someone like PJ Carlisamo who might actually be a pretty decent hire but Flip is pretty sure nobody else will hire him so he can take his time looking for the guy he really wants.

Personally I can see why the hot names aren't being linked to the Wolves. We just ended with an older coach retiring so George Karl doesn't seem like a great fit becasue of that. SVG wasn't ever going to come here and I do think whoever comes here as HC needs to run or allow an offense that for one thing lets Rubio have some freedom. The best fit of any coach still for me is Hollins (I really like the comparisons of Conely who took off after Hollins took over and Rubio), but there must have been some reason he got canned. That sticks in the back of my mind.

I would like to see the coach hired before the draft obviously it makes sense, but depending on what direction Flip intends to go that may not be possible. I am ok with him taking his time to get the right guy. I am not panicking I don't think we have missed out on anyone I thought we really were going to get. I also don't really buy the idea that Flip is dragging his feet to end up being the guy and naming himself the coach. You would think if that was the deal he woudl at least interview someone. LOL I do think there is some possibility that he ends up as the coach next year, but I think Glen wants Flip running the team not coaching so like someone else said Glen will get what he wants.

Those are some good thoughts, monster. While a number of us use the "Flip is dragging his feet so he can coach" mantra, I think it is more cynicism than really meaning it. And somebody recently pointed out that a coach hire is very unlikely until the draft lottery is behind us. Doogie had mentioned that we might pickup a few tidbits coming of Chicago this week...

And it is interesting that GSW went with a 2nd straight hire of somebody with no NBA coaching experience. As much as we like Steve Kerr, there's no sure-fire way of knowing how that will transfer to being an NBA head coach.

I felt the same way, why bring in another analyst with no coaching experience? How about this guy, Spurs assistant Chip Engelland? Seven years with the Spurs and also a shooting coach!

Well Washington is out so we can only assume we will soon have some idea of one of our coaching possibilities...Sam Cassell or the Wizards will fire Wittman and we pick him up of course. LOL

Zgoda came out with his update on the coaching search. As usual, it's basically a summary of what everyone knows already.

But at the same time, a new candidate has emerged. And nobody should be surprised. I mean, we are talking "the country club" here, right?!? (it's Wojo talking about Sam Mitchell)

When does Doug Collin's name get added to the rumor mill? I also found it interesting that Flip thru out the possibility of a European coach on the funkadelic Friday. Who's a top notch European that wants to come to the NBA?
