I would want at least one of Jarrett Allen, Caris LaVert or a Nuggets 2019 1st round pick as well.

I'd want more than that. Butler is very likely to stay where he is traded, because he has made it clear that he wants that 5 year deal.

Hard for me to get excited about any trade scenario involving Brooklyn.

Jamal Murray
Kevin Knox
Markelle Fultz
Otto Porter
Gary Harris
Dario Saric
D'Angelo Russell/
Robert Covington
Tobias Harris
Caris LeVert
Josh Richardson

In order, who I'm most excited to see headlined in a potential Jimmy Butler trade.

Josh Richardson is, without a doubt, the best piece the Miami Heat can offer in a trade for Jimmy Butler.

And while he's a solid young player, he's not "damn, I'd trade my best player for him" good. To think so is insanity.

Need Denver to want Jimmy Butler. Won't be able to contend for him in free agency. Plenty of attractive assets. Ideally, the Nuggets would give up both Jamal Murray and Gary Harris.

Realistically, a fair trade can be made centered around just one of the two Denver guards.

That's a nice list but I'm not sure how many we can realistically get from there. I like the Wizards angle the most. They've been mired in mediocrity for a while. I jus think Glen gets reluctant on salary.

For one thing it's not like Josh Richardson is an absolutely proven commodity either. I have read in the past that it seemed like his offense progressed beyond just hitting 3's and attacking an occasional closeout. So in theory there is some upside there. The added value that he and a guy like Covington have is their cost controlled contracts and the fact that both are basically plug and play on any team. If you end up not needing them they will likely have a lot of value in a trade. I agree they probably shouldn't be absolute centerpieces but getting a legit starting level wing and have one of those spots set and locked into around 10 million for a few years...is pretty valueable.

Heard a hoops podcast this morning where a Wizards fan floated the Otto Porter talk... then mentioned the Wizards walked from it.

I generally like your list, Cam. But I'd remove Russell and insert Bradley Beal in case the Wizards would be more inclined to swap him rather than Otto Porter. I'd also flip the order of Tobias Harris and Josh Richardson. I have concern about Fultz as a possible head case. I just haven't seen enough to know, so I wouldn't have him on my list. I'm totally with you on your top two, but I don't consider them realistic options. With Murray and Knox my top two picks if gettable, here's my top 10 list in order of what I consider realistic options:

1. Otto Porter (Super solid 2-way wing)
2. Bradley Beal (perfect complement to Wiggins; shoots 3s, handles ball)
3. Dario Saric (Perfect stretch 4 for modern game - still very young)
4. Gary Harris (best ball-handling tough SG we can get for Butler)
5. Robert Covington (Better but slightly older than J. Richardson)
6. LeVert (I like his combination of size and ballhandling)
7. Josh Richardson (Still young 2-way wing to step in right away & develop)
8. Tobias Harris (need G-Alexander or unprotected 1st for me to do it)
9. S. G-Alexander (I'd insist on him with T. Harris, but not sure Clip would agree)
10. Bam Adebayo (Miami's desperate enough to give him up with J. Richardson?)

The D'Angelo Russell angle for me goes well beyond his youth + high talent combination. Consider this: he's also very, very close with Karl-Anthony Towns. And if I had it my way, that wouldn't really matter in the NBA, but it clearly does. Keep your stars happy on and off the court.

I'm not saying that's the only thing that matters, but I'm saying it's in the equation for me. Then again, I've also liked Russell since his draft prospect days. Guards that can handle the rock, shoot, and facilitate with legit NBA size for position are hard to find. He's also interchangeable in the backcourt.

I don't like his somewhat concerning injury history and the weird circumstance in LA with Nick Young, but those are way down the list when I think about a guy in his early 20's.

Cam - Thanks for the explanation on your view of Russell. I wish Thibodeau's thinking was as sophisticated as yours. But I'd still stay away. The injury history is too troubling for me. It gets worse when you through in some character issues that seem to be there. Finally, this is the second team he's been on that has little or no interest in retaining him. That's a major red flag in my book. Then you throw in his mediocre stats and I put him in my "stay away" category in spite of all the things you mentioned, which are all accurate and relevant.

Is washington really interested in jimmy?
The more I think of it, they seem like the team that we should be looking to work out a deal with.

They have 2 wings, beal and porter that I would take for jimmy and jimmy can fit with the other and wall. Wall and beal dont get along. They have stagnanted with the current core and need to shake things up and maybe wall and butler will get them farther than wall and beal. A wall beal butler combo works too for them.

I prefer beal over porter. But both fits well with wiggins in the backcourt. If ee have beal, then I would think we have a shot at making it back to the playoffs. If its porter, then we need towns and wiggins to take the next step and we might make it back.
