LST, I was thinking of a similar time table. I can't see anyone other than Hill starting the first game as he's the only one who knows the plays. I assume Hill will continue to play for as long as they can win games or at least show he's a passable NFL QB. That might be one game. Or it might be a quarter of the season. And of course (to Kahn's point earlier) we have to be concerned about our O-line. Hill is just as immobile as Bradford. I do have the same concern as Kahn about a stationary QB getting killed with this O-line. So, if the O-line looks as shitty in real games as they did in pre-season....Bradford might be strapping on his helmet for second quarter of game one. We'll see. I suspect we'll be doing a lot of "max protect" this year again which sucks for AP.

Here are his stats in his 6 games against the NFC North. 0-6 record, QBR of 26.2, 21 sacks...oh, oh. Reports from Philly are of massive parades and ticker tape being thrown out of skyscrapers...wait, you're telling me we're unloading Bradford AND getting, not giving, a first round pick...really?

So having said that, why am I mixed on this deal? Because the Vikings brass knows way more about Hill/Stave than me, and their conclusion obviously was much more dire than mine. A 1st and a 4th sounds like grand theft larceny, but with the Browns asking for a 3rd rounder for aging Josh McCown, a lot more was going to be asked for a young former first round pick like Bradford...even with his spotty record. And for those who sought someone like Rivers, this tells me his price tag would have started with 2 picks and also included a solid defensive starter. So I think Rick paid what he had to pay to control Bradford for the 2 years Teddy might be out or limited. The question for me is whether a scrap heap free agent for free might have been a better option.

So, what's the timetable for Bradford? Ideally he will need at least 2 weeks to learn the offense, so I don't see him starting before the 3rd week. I also don't think Zimmer will bench Hill until he loses a game, and I see them beating the Titans in the opener and beating the Pack in the inaugural game in the new stadium. So I think Bradford either starts the 4th game of the season after a loss in Carolina, or gets swapped in for Hill during the 3rd game.

I would have rather given up the farm for Rivers who is a top 5 QB who knows most of this offense already than a 1st and 4th for a glass made, overrated Bradford. When your teams are consistently mediocre you can't keep blaming the talent around the QB. That's on the QB at that point. It's comforting to know our new glass QB has his blindside protected by Kalil. Because that's not gonna go poorly.

I was right, and Monster and Future were wrong (big shock I know), we did make a big move to try and save the season. So if I'm dense, what does that make you Future?

That being said it was the right move but for the wrong guy. This would have been an acceptable price for AJ McCarron. For Sam Bradford it's a terrible reach. He's simply never been a good quarterback. He had the 3rd worst QBR in the league last year. I'm happy we didn't just thorw the year away and got something better than Hill. But this will prove to be a mistake over time. Sam is just too ordinary and too injury prone to give up these assets.

I assuming Norv Turner had input. Assuming cost for Rivers was too high, this must have been the guy for whom he said "yeah, get him"

Plus Shumur had Bradford with the Rams. And I didn't know Bradford was incoming to Oklahoma when AP was heading out...

Bradford isn't better than Hill unfortunately.

Ben Miller ?@benmiller 24m24 minutes ago

@FO_VVerhei I don't care what numbers you have. Nobody who watches and understands what he's watching would think Hill is near Bradford.

I'm going with Ben's Tweet

Lol...I guess looking like a better QB is more important than actually being one.

To clarify Cool my point was that just because you don't make a big trade like this the season was over. I wasn't against making a deal completely just that the world would end if it didn't happen. :) I probably wasn't clear on that.

I'm not fully on board with this move because it was a lot to give up but I've always liked Bradford as a solid NFL QB and the guy has talent to be more than that. Remember the lack of talent he had catching balls with the Rams a lot of his time there. It was pretty bad outside of Amendola.

Good QB's are good regardless of WR talent. Rodgers was still good throwing to Cobb and a bunch of grocery baggers last year. Brady has rarely had good WR's. Wilson has made guys like Doug Baldwin look like a borderline WR1. Bradford is just a mediocre QB who has never raised the level of play of his teams.
