Yeah, he's the big variable that can impact how good we can be. Obviously he isn't always going to play like this, but as Q has said, this experience is so valuable for guys to get at a young age.

Our defense was absolutely sick in the 2nd half. Sometimes I can't believe it's the Wolves out there with some of the poor defenses we've had over the years. Remember the Rambis defenses? Things have changed.

What a time to live in Arizona. I'm a teacher and my students have been talking trash since the regular season finale loss.

I was at the game tonight. Not an empty seat in the arena as far as I could see. The crowd seemed quieter early on than it was Saturday afternoon although I wasn’t there in person on Saturday. But the crowd turned up the volume at the end of the first half and turned it up even more in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Game ball definitely goes to Jaden McDaniels. The Jaden we saw tonight wasn’t a fluke. It’s who he is and it’s why I’ve sometimes compared his potential to Scottie Pippen. Jaden not only had 25 points tonight; he also had 8 rebounds. Of course his defense tonight was incredible as it was Saturday. There’s no question he’s a great defender and has been for some time in his still young career. We saw tonight what Jaden is capable of on the offensive side of the ball and on the boards. Runner up for the game ball is Mike Conley. He was the mature adult in the first and second quarters when our guys were struggling, missing shots and making some dumb plays.

It’s testament to this team’s depth that the Wolves can win a playoff game by 12 points when Ant scores only 15 on 3-12 FG shooting and Towns scores only 12 points while playing only 24 minutes. Oh, and Naz Reid was 1-5 from the field. We had 6 players with double digit point totals tonight. While Edwards’ shot wasn’t falling, he generally made good decisions and ended up with 8 dimes. KAT’s defense was tremendous and pulled down 8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Jaden, Conley and Rudy was tremendous in all facets of the game. And I should also mention NAW. His defense and mental toughness were a big factor tonight. He has an intensity and strong will that lifts the team when they need a lift. His 10 points and 5 assists understate his contribution to tonight’s win.

Some additional observations watching the Wolves bench. You all know how much I hate watching Wolves players laugh and joke around on the bench when their teammates are locked in a tight battle in an important game. It was the same offenders tonight. Wendell Moore is the worst of the lot and he gets my Wes Johnson award for tonight and the season. I’m sad to report that the second worst offender tonight and in other games I’ve seen this season has been Jaylen Clark. Leonard Miller was another offender, but not as bad as Wendell and Jayden. It was troubling tonight to seen Monte Morris join in the frivolity. Again,I’m talking about this happening when the game is on the line, not at the end when we’re comfortably ahead. The good news is that I haven’t seen Josh Minott engage in any of this frivolity and I rarely seen Luke join in either. My favorite players based on bench demeanor are Jaden McDaniels, Rudy Gobert and NAW. You’ll rarely see those guys crack a smile on the bench under any circumstance.

Anyway, a great win tonight. Now let’s go to Phoenix and sweep this thing there.

Lip, glad to hear you were there to watch a great performance...I think you've mentioned elsewhere that you haven't been able to go to as many games this season. I was there too, and am lucky to have tickets for Sunday's game in Phoenix too...could be a critical game whether we are up 2-1 or (gasp) 3-0!

Thanks for mentioning NAW. He had an uncharacteristic poor 3-point shooting night, but he does so much else out there. Finchie thinks of him as a 6th starter and gave him 31 well-deserved minutes...more than KAT and almost as many as Mike. He's still a young player, but he seems to have a maturity level closer to Mike Conley than guys like KAT, Ant and Jaden...he's the adult on the when Mike is out. More than any other T-Wolf, he never takes a play off. He gives 100% every moment he is on the court, and he has even seemed to take his intensity up a notch now that it is playoff time. His extraordinary defense was even better last night...he almost seems unscreenable with his ability to fight through picks...such an asset against a team looking to create mismatches.

Abe's Next-Day DVR Review after relishing in yet another Timberwolves win last night:

- Well, that was quite the Jaden McDaniels experience. The energy/activity was obviously higher than normal. Interestingly, Finch's interview after the game mentioned that they've been asking him to hit the boards for 250 games now. Good to finally see it. Is THIS the Jaden McDaniels we've been waiting for? Is it good for an entire series? A 20-game playoff run? 100 games annually? Eventually, we'll find out. For now... I'll enjoy one game that was pretty fun to watch. My favorite part was him just running and jumping and grabbing the rim after Conley's big corner three. He was like the hyperactive kid who just got on the playground for recess.

- Edwards made the basic, easy pass. And then he did it again. And then... again. If he buys in to that every game... we're going to be giddy. As he matures, he'll become better at picking his spots. Just a solid game despite not shooting well. And that's the sign of a very good player.

- The NBA clearly changed how it's calling games. And that clearly benefits the Timberwolves if it continues. McDaniels shoving Allen with two hands after he's picked is a foul 95% of the time if it happens early in the 1st quarter of a regular season game. It wasn't called yesterday. The Wolves are big. They're handsy. They TRY hard on D. If they're allowed to play physically consistently, this team could make a deep run.

(This does not include Towns. Although I liked that Booker got called for hooking him.)

- Still waiting for the Naz Reid game. He's been kinda meh for a brief spell here.

- Gobert is amazing on defense. The "can't play in the playoffs" take was always pretty lazy. He's putting it to sleep at this point. He's guarding a team that would seem perfect to exploit the "Gobert can't guard in space" take. He's doing... ummm... pretty damn good.

- Mike Conley diving out of bounds to save the ball was fun. I've always liked Conley since OSU even if his game leaves me sort of cold. (I really really like PGs, so the standards are high.) But damn. He's always been a good guy who just rolls with it... but has a highly underrated competitive streak that's more than endearing. Good bounce back game I think we should have expected.

- Good to see Michael Nori back on the halftime interviews. I was wondering why other asst. coaches were doing it later in the season. Nori was just saving his material. I used to skip all of halftime on the DVR. I tune in just for him now.

- This team is good. It seems to have the right mix of players. They seem to like each other. They try... HARD. And it has character to it. It's been fun.

- Two more games. The Suns are too talented. But they seem on the verge of collapse. Keep squeezing them defensively, suck the life out of them... and they'll implode. Obviously, how the game is called in Game 3 will dictate how that goes.

- Eric Gordon waiting a beat to throw a 3/4 court heave at the end of a quarter until it's after the whistle epitomizes what's wrong with some NBA players and maybe what's wrong with the Suns. His superstar teammates should have ripped him for that on the spot. Then again, Kevin Durant famously once said he refuses to take those shots to protect his stats.

I think every Wolves player on the roster is taking that shot (stats be damned) and that's why I'm confident the Timberwolves win this series.

On the Micha Nori thing. The wolves switch coach each month, that’s why he hasn’t done it in awhile.

Also Micha Nori is this generations Ted Lasso. All of the sayings. Did you know he didn’t even play college basketball at any level. He played college baseball at Indiana and after Indiana he ended being a hitting coach at Indiana. So outside of high school he had no basketball background until he ended up on the Raptors bench in 2009. His son is also a stud baseball prospect who is projected to go in the first round

Jaden’s presser was great, especially since he hardly ever gets the spotlight. His motivation seems to be at an all time high after missing out on the playoffs last year. He was great in game 1 too.
