Sounds like it was a good thing his contract was not tolled. He would have been an expensive backup that might not be able to play. I hope him the best though.

I really don't get how Teddy goes from playing two series in garbage time to now he needs more recovery and he's not ready. I feel like it's the Vikings trying to cover themselves with Teddy's departure. They put him in a real game. Garbage time or not. You don't do that with someone who needs more recovery. That means he's either ready and your lying about the recovery or you put him in a game when he wasn't ready. Neither makes you look good. Just more weird PR moves similar to Murray last year. Money is a perfectly acceptable reason to let someone walk. Just call it what it is.

It's a little weird. They had him as THE BACKUP in games that mattered. Did he have a set back?

My theory is he is healthy enough to be a backup or a flyer for a team but isn't a guy you want to commit a bunch of money to. There was a report that the Vikings were still looking to bring him back this offseason but when he wanted 10 million they were out and understandably so.

Regardless Zimmer probably shouldn't be saying anything or more careful about what he said. Sharif Floyd is already upset with Zimmers comments (probably rightfully so regardless of how they were intended) and it just looks bad and weird. Sometimes Zimmer's weird quirks have their drawbacks.

On Vikings.com they have the full almost hour long video with Zimmer sitting there at the table eating and answering questions. If you watch the first 20-30 mins you get the quotes you have seen and read and the context. After watching it I don't really have any issue with what he said. He thought Teddy looked fine or even great on practice it was after the season the medical evaluations showed concern for Teddy's long term health. He spoke glowingly about him every time he was asked about him as you would expect.

Well now that Jets drafted Sam Darnold I doubt Teddy sees the field unless he beats out McCown. If his contract is structured with little money if he doesn't make the 52 man roster I think he gets cut. Anyone have any other thoughts on this?

Yeah i was thinking similar things this last weekend. I'd guess they at least wait till OTAs and see where Both he and Darnold are at. He got 500k as a signing bonus and the other 5.5 million is not guaranteed. If he looks good and is healthy they could keep him even at that number. You never know what injuries cold happen or a team could trade for him. Obviously it doesn't look like a great future for him with the Jets. Same with McCarron with the Bills although he likely has the inside track on the backup job at least this year although he could start the season if Allen isn't ready.

I am not a Josh Allen fan. I see him as Ryan Leaf 2.0.

Reading I think the Vikings are lucky his contract was not tolled. I am shocked he was primary backup for some many games.

Teddy's Tolled contract wouldn't have been all that much money but yeah if he isn't healthy you don't want that.

I think the simplist explaination is there was something discovered or some sort of tweak or setback or something Teddy had at some point. I can see why Teddy didn't want to have that get out and therefore the Vikings probably have not done that. Teddy is a great guy but he has handled this injury in sort of weird manner in some ways. Can I blame him for not wanting to talk to the media for months about the injury? No. Do I blame him for probably being somewhat silent on his health going forward the last couple months or whatever? No. It just feels though that for a guy so well liked and all that you would have thought he would be more open than he was.

I'm the article the stuff Bowles said about his QBs he kinda sounds like a dick. Maybe in the full context of whatever interaction this was it was fine.

Not much is here but it sounded like OTAs went good.
