TheFuture wrote:#5 and Payne for #8 and Casspi would be ideal, and seems very fair.
#5/Payne/Jones for #8/Casspi/Curry(S&T). Seth, not Steph.
I'm not sure they would do that. Not saying Seth is very good, but I thought even just Casspi was a close call. He plays within an offense, shoots 40% from 3pt on 4 attempts a game, and rebounds well. At 6'9 he plays SF and would be an option as a small ball stretch 4. I'd love to have him here.
Then you walk away. Unless you are a Cousins and/or Collison fan and can make the salaries work. There is no law that says MIN needs to make a trade, and boredom is not a law. SAC really isn't much beyond Cousins/Collison/Casspi/Curry (The killer C's?).
You don't believe Casspi is a good enough haul to move them up 3 spots? 12 pts, 6 rebs, 1.5asts with a good 3pt stroke would do wonders for our bench. He is only signed for another year or two, so that could give pause.
He's an average SF (+.9 PER Split), and that is an area of need. Seth is better than Jones. And more importantly, SAC is not run by bright people.
Seth does have 5 years on Tyus Jones. I'd prefer to keep Jones.
Casspi isn't a great player, but he'd immediately help our bench which is a big need. He provides 3pt shooting that is a big need. He's not a starter here, but he would be our 6th-8th best player right away.
My main point is that I do not see a big difference in boom/bust potential between Murray/Hield//Dunn/Sabonis/Davis/Brown/Poeltl/Chriss/Ellenson range so I would would prefer to pick up a role player along the way.
I see it as a big leap.
Sorry, I didn't realize Seth Curry was going to be 26 soon.
I have changed my mind. I don't see SAC a good fit for this trade. Maybe something smaller, like Payne/2nd for Casspi, or a big move involving Cousins and/or Collison.
I like what we saw from Tyus last season after the all-star break. At age 19 after only one year of college ball I thought he was impressive. And I was down on the Tyus Jones pick before then.
Casspi would be a nice addition. If we could get him for Payne straight up I'd do the deal. But otherwise, I think we can do as well through free agency without giving up any assets. Even a future second round pick has value, especially given the fact that we owe our 2018 first round pick (lottery protected) and donl't have our own 2nd round pick this year. I think we might owe some other future 2nd round picks.

Fair point. My concerns about F/A this summer is nearly every team is in good shape cap-wise, so it's a seller market.

Jason -- I think your're right about market this summer. As a result, there's no way we could compete for a marque player like Durant or even Horford. But I'm hoping we can snag a mid-market role player.
I'm counting in part on how attractive the Wolves franchise is right now with one of the League's best head coaches and the consensus best young roster. Furthermore, I would think we'd have the inside track on Deng and Noah based on their prior association with Thibs. According to reports I've read, they both liked Thibs and they clearly flourished under him as their head coach. Then there's a really long list of decent FAs on the next rung down from these two guys who could help fill out our bench. The large quantity of such FAs might help buyers like the Wolves in the market this summer. But I do share your concern.

How about instead of Noah and Deng, how about Noah AND P. Gasol? Great PER splits at the 5 for Gasol, and he has a P/O and can opt out. Noah may have a "bounce-back" playing for Thibs, and his father can give lessons at the Lifetime at 394/100.
That takes care of the 5. Then draft a 1 at #5, trade Payne for any wing they can get (even Kendall Marshall). Roll out the balls on halloween and lets play.

Another option is #5 and Payne for Ennis
I would do #5 and Payne for #10 and Ennis. The Bucks could add Murray or Hield to play off the ball while the Freak plays PG.
I don't necessarily look at trading from #5 to #8+Casspi as losing assets. And Payne isn't fetching Casspi level talent in a trade. Casspi is guaranteeing us that we get some proven added production next year while still being able to add to our stable of young talent at #8. If you have one of Murray/Hield/Dunn way higher than any of Davis/Sabonis/Poeltl/Chriss/Ellenson then I would understand why you wouldn't do the trade.

On a serious note, I don't like that deal. Ennis is 2 years older than Jones and there is no serious uptick in production.
On a lighter note, didn't you read my last post? I fixed it! And now I am on to the Twins and Wild.
Payne in any trade scenario is a bonus getting rid of him. If someone wouldn't do the trade because he was in it take him out make the trade and cut him if you have to. Basically the only thing that's hurting there is a little cap space and Glen's wallet.
Casspi woumd be a nice get he is the sort of guy this team needs a 3 point shooter than can play small ball PF and Be a true big SF. I'd want to suck it to the Kings for more than him and #8 to move up even if it was just a future 2nd rounder. My guess is Casspi is a guy they like though but it's the Kings so who knows. Seth Curry would be a nice guy to add he played well down the stretch so I don't know if they would deal him or not but really he is more of a combo guard undersized SG than a PG so there would be room for his shooting on the roster especially if we went with a big at #8.
I've said this over and over again but everyone will have money but it will run out and there will be guys that will take some money or even not a lot of money and come here. There are only so many open roster spots around the league and it's sorta funny how they fill up and guys are left there for the taking/signing. There will be useful rotation players available for the Wolves to sign.
What about McLemore in a trade down with the Kings. A potential 3-D bench guy with a plenty of upside. I think the Kings are a natural trade down partner. They need backcourt help and where they sit they may not have as good of options.

I agree. I would certainly ask for him when trading down.
